Description of 1966 Ford Galaxie |
1966 Ford Country Squire is a combination of a Galaxie 500with some LTD enhancements. This was the firstyear for the dual tailgate. IT will Fold down like all wagon gates did along withadded swing open feature of the tail gate door. These were on all full-size Fordwagons regardless of trim level. Only Country Squires got wood trim outsides, oras we called them at the dealer “still in the create”. All other wagons for 66 fullsize line up were painted sides. The interior had changes also. The Country Squireshad LTD enhancements with wood trim onlower dash along with wood trim around heater /wiper controls. The Country Squiredid not get the LTD up graded plush seat trim or anodized inside windshieldtrim the hardtop/sedans received. The Country Squires received the Galaxie 500seat trim. Country sedan had same Galaxie500 seat trim but no wood grain on lower dash instead getting aluminum trimlike Galaxie 5oo hardtop/coupe received along with wood trim around heater/wiper controls. The Ranch wagon was based off the custom trim level. No addedtrim on lower dash and no fake wood trim around heater /wiper controls on dashwith custom door panels. not Galaxie door panels. Most wagons werevinyl trim seat upholstery. The grill for the Country Squire was from the XL, 7-liter, LTD grill which was chrome plate steel vs the Galaxie 500 grill that wasanodized aluminum trim of a different design. The Country Squires also got thehood ornament along with country sedan. There was none on Ranch wagon. and very little outside trim on body. So that is what makes the wagons different than the full-size hardtop/sedans of the same year. They did not offer dual facing rear seats inthe ranch wagon model. This wagon does not have dual facing rear seats. Another thing most peopledo not know is the standard engine for all full-size Fords except LTD was 240CI inline 6 cyl. Only the LTD got the 289 V8 as standard engine. So, any other engine wasa “checked box” option. I have never seena country Squire with a 240 in it, but that’s not to say there isn’t one outthere. The most common engines were 352 CI and 390 CI in Country Squires. The 427CI was not offered in a wagon, but a 428 was. Now for this car. It has 390 that was a 2-barrel motor. Itreceived new chrome rings, rod andmain bearingsMachine shop said the bore was stock and it only need honing which it received. They also inspected heads and crankshaft with nothing needing to be done there. The heads got new valve seals and crankshaft received a light polish. When itwas rebuilt, it received a “RV” camshaft and lifters giving it strong low-endtorque. Or as I like to say, 5 fat old guy pulling power. It received a new oilpump and double roller timing chain and fuel pump. It has a newer style one wirealt on it (150 amp). New starter, battery (Ford) and cables. I added gauges, oilpressure, temp and voltsto see what isgoing on. Cold light and hot light, Alt light still work, oil light was eliminated. It has never had a trailer hitch on it and since I have had it, as it has haulednothing but folding chairs. It’s a cruise in car. I did add a 4-barrel intakeand a Holley brawler carb with electric choke. It runs good like it is, butstill uses some oil. I change it a lot because it gets diluted with fuel quickwith in and out of garage movement. (Oil is cheap, motors are expensive). We did drive it to Butler PA from SouthCarolina this summer. Trans shifts great but it is leaking when sitting. Seals are57 years old, so I am sure it needs a reseal. Rear axle has new axle shaftbearings but nothing else has been done and it is quiet. Brakes have been upgraded to disc in front with new booster, master cyl, rubber lines, calipersand pads. It was a kit using same drum brake spindles. Rear brakes are new shoeswith wheel cyl and E- brake cables (E- brake is used all the time). All new Moogball joints, upper a- arm bushings, strut rod bushings, 4 new KYB shocks, rear springs and tires are good. It has a dual exhaust from Waldron for 65 wagons. 66 did not offer dual exhaust on any full-sizewagons. I eliminated heat riser on rt manifold with a by-pass block to keepexhaust stock. It has had recore radiator and new heater core and hoses installed. It was converted to new style Sanden compressor with new hoses, expansion valve, condenser, receiver dryer and blower motor with evap core cleaned. It has Ice coldA/C. I have only needed A/C so I havenot fixed the diaphragms under dash for heat /cool. The body is original withall its blemishes and interior is all factory except for carpet and front doorseals I put on doors. It had no carpet when I got it and headliner has had oldmice damage and dry material one hole in driver rear area at back glass. It was a smoker's car back in the day. This cargets thumbs up everywhere we go as it is. It is a factory tinted glass (allglass) with dark shade on top of windshield. Again, the glass is all original. Ithas a perfect frame. I am from a rust state of northeast and remember thesecars having major frame issue when they were 7 years old. Not this one. No bends or welds on it and no rust concerns.I flush the frame out to keep it clean of dirt once a year. It’s a nice car andif you wanted to fix body rust, which is minimal. It has old body damage fromyears ago that appears to be coming of rt front fender. No rust on floor pansthat I found. Rust areas are spare tire area, lower dog leg with some on lowerlip of tailgate. Small Bubbles on lower areas but nothing extreme or covered up.It’s all original for most of the body. Both front fenders have had very old bodywork, but hood is original with no damage from collision. All damage was lightdamage to fenders with no grill or panel under grill damage. No hard impacts tofront of car. No body damage from front glass to rear tailgate, all orginal. All paint except for both front fenders is original. I believe it sat for a long time before I purchased it. driver seat had no tears in it when I got it. If someonedid body work and some interior work, itcould be a show car. I never intended to do that with it. We drive it so I make sure all the mechanical stuff is good. I worked at a Ford dealer for over ten years. NOTE: None refundable payment of 500.00 due at end of auction. full payment in 7 days. Need bid history of 5 better or contact me before you bid.
