Description of 1976 Ford F-250 Highboy Ranger

Presenting a custom built frame off restored 1976 Ford F-250 “Highboy” Ranger package finished in red with a tan interior and only 5,142miles since restoration. It is powered by a V8 engine with automatic transmission and full time four wheel drive. This highly optioned truck came from the factory and includes the Ranger package, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes with front discs and rear drums, sliding rear window, rear step bumper, convenience group, visibility group and ammeter and oil gauges. The sale of this impeccable and rare“Highboy” is being represented by Classic 4x4 on behalf of its current owner.

Offered from 1967 to 1977 the Ford F250 4x4s were nicknamed “Highboy” due to the requirements of their divorced transfer case. Because the driveline incorporated a divorced transfer case, it sat further back requiring a longer driveshaft. This meant more clearance was needed, so Ford designed the front end suspension to sit up higher. To level out these unique 4x4s, Ford used lift blocks to raise the rear. This all resulted in the “Highboys” receiving a factory-installed lift kit.

This specific truck was built on May 12, 1976 and sold at Dean’s Ford in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 20,1976. The current owner acquired the truck for their collection in 2022.The meticulous frame off restoration was completed under previous ownership in 2014. The sale includes a Marti report verifying the factory build details, original manual, receipts, maintenance records and photos documenting the restoration.

The frame off restoration appears to be “nut and bolt” encompassing every aspect of the body, interior, powertrain, suspension and all major systems. The original body was refinished in a Ford Performance Red and inside of the bed in black bedliner. The frame was stripped and repainted, along with the powertrain, suspension and underbody components. The new interior included carpet, woodgrain steering wheel, door cards, dash pad, Clarion stereo and the original bench seat was refinished in tan vinyl. The truck is powered by a replacement Ford 390cid 6.4LV8 engine with a Motorcraft 2 barrel carburetor, long tube headers and custom exhaust. Power is sent to all four wheels through a Ford C6 “Cruise o Matic” automatic transmission, divorced New Process 203 full time dual range four wheel drive transfer case, Dana 44 front axle with Warn locking hubs and 4.10 Dana 60 limited slip rear axle.

The truck has red undercarriage lighting and an additional set of Mickey Thompson Classic polished wheels wrapped in 35 x 12.5 R16 Mickey Thompson Super Swamper tires. Currently mounted are the classic looking original steel wheels refinished in gray and wrapped in 9.5R16.5 Dominator Radial H/V tires. Both sets of wheels and tires, two spare Mickey Thompson Super Swamper tires and a solid rear window are included in the sale.

There are no known mechanical flaws, the truck runs, drives, shifts, steers and stops well. There are no known interior flaws and the air conditioning, heat, gauges and stereo are functional. Other than normal wear and tear, the only known cosmetic flaw is a barely noticeable, small and shallow dent on the drivers’ bed side. The odometer shows approximately 5,142 miles since restoration and the true mileage is unknown. The truck is located in Shelton, Washington and has a clean and clear Washington State title in the current owner’s name.
