I do not know the whole history of this car but it is definitely interesting. Any information would be greatly appreciated. This is a 1957 Ford Thundebird with a French Export Tag and a 240 KM Speedometer on it. From what little information I have found online, Ford France imported 6 cars (I don't know where the guy on the Thunderbird Forum got that number and have no idea if it is accurate or not) and assembled them over there for local sale. Ford France had been sold to Simca in 1954 but Ford retained a 15 percent ownership until selling completely in 1958. This could possibly be be one of those cars but I have no idea how we can authenticate that.
This is a cool old Hot Rod Custom project for somebody. But understand IT IS A PROJECT. BUT A VERY COMPLETE PROJECT! I believe the only thing that has not been located is the grill. It is a 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible that, at one time, had a TON of money invested into it. It was a show winner and I have old pictures of it from back then. I believe it was built in the late 70s or early 80s. It has been in storage for quite some time BUT it now starts up and runs great again. It starts right up, moves, shifts, and stops. It would obviously need to be gone through before driving it but what great bones to start with to build your dream T-Bird or to restore.
The body is excellent. It has very minimal rust in the rocker panels but it would be an easy fix. The rest of the body is very good The floorboards are excellent. The trunk is excellent. The car is very straight. I believe it is a 351 Cleveland. That being said, I am definitely no Ford Engine ID expert. The receipts I have for the car date back to the 1960s. It runs very well. 4 speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter, headers, Ford 9 inch rearend, rack and pinion steering, power windows. Ford Air Conditioning set up. Battery has been re-located to the trunk, fender skirts. Vintage Mickey Thompson Slotted wheels.
The interior needs a good wipe down but is in surprisingly good condition. The upholstery, padded dashpad, and door panels will all clean up nicely. I didn't want to wash anything so it is presented in it's as found, Barn Find condition. No carpet. The soft top is in good shape and will clean up too. No hardtop. I don't think it was ever optioned with one. Clean, clear California title in hand with original Ford VIN and VIN plate/Trim Tag. I am located in Solana Beach, CA in North County San Diego.
