Description of 1970 Ford Other Pickups Sport Custom

This 1970 Ford F100 Sport Custom Pickup was bought new at Don Sanderson Ford in Glendale, Arizona. 1/2 ton, long bed. The original owner drove it until 1995 and put it away in storage with only 82370 showing on the odometer. I bought the truck from his wife after he passed away at the age of 94. I am the second owner. It is amazing how original the pickup still is.

The pickup is powered by a 302 cu. in engine and still retains the original Ford 2 barrel carburetor (the tag is still intact on the carb). 3 speed manual transmission, shifted on the column (3 on the tree). Manual steering, manual brakes, no a/c. The paint on the truck is all original Grabber Blue with a white cab, it has never been repainted and after detailing and waxing the truck it looks amazing! All the glass is original. The interior looks like the day it came off the showroom floor. And nothing has been replaced, original parchment white seat and door panels, original black dash pad with no cracks in it, The steering wheel is also without splits or cracks, headliner is perfect. The original factory mat on the floor looks like new...but it is 53 years old. The original 1970 Ford Pickup dealer brochure is rolled up and tucked into the upper seat spring on the back of the seat, it's been there since 1970. Both doors close like a brand new truck. It has an factory extra gas tank for long trips. And the original owner chose to put a camper shell on it when new.

  • Since the pickup had been sitting in storage for so many years I went through the truck from front to rear replacing the things that would make it safe and dependable to hit the road once again. New hoses, fan belt, fuel filter and fuel lines. New thermostat and thermostat housing. Oil and filter. New battery. Flushed the radiator. It still has the original oil bath air filter and I drained the old oil from the base. I replaced the windshield washer reservoir. 1970 was one of the last years for drum brakes, and the pickup has them front and rear. 11 x 3 front and 11 x 2 1/4 rear brakes shoes have all been replaced along with all the wheel cylinders and brake hardware kits, drums were turned for the first time, the original retaining tabs were still on the rear axle studs! New front brake hoses. New master cylinder. The rear seal on the transmission was leaking from sitting so long so it was replaced. The gas tank was flushed, luckily the original owner drained the tank when he stored it away. The original "poverty" hubcaps are in the camper, the deluxe caps now on the truck where in a box and never put on the truck. It looks much better with them on. All the lights work, along with the turn signals and brake lights.

As you can see in the photos the factory assembly line markings are still on the underside on the hood, 2/11/70 was the day the truck was built and the number 63 that is written next to the build date also appears on each inner fender panel. You would look long and hard to find a '70 pickup this original and as nice overall as this Sport Custom pickup is. It's almost like it was stored in a vacuum.

Runs and drives well, runs cool, no real issues that need to be addressed other than the tires should be replaced. I chose not to buy new tires since the next owner might want to change the wheel and tire combination. No rust perforation.
