You are looking at a vintage race car hauler. a 1957 Ford F300 ramp truck. I got this from a friend of mine who was moving. He got it a few years back in the Harrisburg / Hershey area. I don’t have any history on it but it does have an old NHRA sticker and a 1989 Super Stock Nationals sticker from Maple Grove on it. FYI: the carb that was on the truck could be a clue to its history. It was one of the factory 63 Ford Galaxie 427 2x4 Holley carbs (we kept that). This truck sat for years. It needs a restoration but is 70% solid. It does start. drive and stop but doesn’t do any of the 3 particularly well. The carb we put on it wasn’t much better than the one we removed. A new carb will correct alot. The engine appears to be the original 272 Y-block. It has a sticky ring so sometimes it smokes. sometimes it don’t. Running it more will clear that up. The engine seams to run fine when the carb ain’t acting up and sounds strong. I really feel the engine just needs a fresh carb and to be run. The clutch is hydraulic and feels ok but I didn’t take it out on the road to test the truck for obvious reasons. The Trans is 4 speed and feels ok. The brakes need to be bled. It has brakes when you pump the pedal. Seems like there is some air in the lines from sitting. Looks like the truck once has air brakes. There is an air tank mounted under the cab. The rear seems ok. No funny noises or clunking. The tires are not safe for road use. Both of the front cab mounts need work (pictured). The rear mounts are solid. The floors are solid but the cab needs work around the step areas. The one cab corner needs repaired too. Doors have some rust on the bottoms but are totally fixable. All the glass is good and the windows do roll up and down. Each front fender needs a lower patch panel. The hood is ok. The one headlight bezel is dented but otherwise. the chrome grill is straight. Core support looks OK. The title lists the GVW at 9000LBS. The bed is your typical back yard stick welder job. It’s a good. solid job but most cuts were made with a torch. The tool boxes were also hand made and are starting to rust though here and there. It can hold a car with up to a 13’ wheel base (my 64 Impala is 10’). The ramps are MFGered pieces. When we drove my Willys (not for sale) up on for pictures. the truck handled the weight fine. I believe if you put a better carb on this and bled the brakes. you could haul a vintage race car into a local show as is. I doubt it’s ready for a trip to the Nats at Indy. Old ramp trucks from back in the day don’t surface often. Having one of these was a giant step up from flat towing with a tow bar. If you are looking for the right hauler for your vintage race car. this is it. Especially if you are a Ford guy. I could see a 64 Thunderbolt sitting on it right now. You could restore it or if you want to update this thing for safe long hauls. I have a 2002 E450 Ford mini bus with 127K mile perfect running V10 gas. OD automatic Trans and dual wheel 4 wheel disc brakes. I’d throw that in the deal for $1200. The battery is not included. I just threw that in to get it started. This will need to be hauled. You can’t drive it home. I hauled this thing on my 19’ roll back and would consider local delivery (50 miles) for $2 per mile both ways. Dave 570-527-3450 |
