1965 Ford Mustang " K - Code " Coupe ~ 289 "Hi Po" V8 ~ 4 Speed Top Loader ~ 9 inch Rear ~ Total Ground up Nut and Bolt Restoration Documented 79000 miles by original owner Rangoon Red with Red interior Rally Pac ~ Steel Style Wheels Vin # 5F07K321525 On October 13. 1964 in Dearborn. Michigan this 1965 " K - Code " Coupe was born as it exists today over 50 years later ! It was then sent to a special order dealer in the Boston. Massachusetts district where it was purchased by a 25 year old Gentleman . It spent a special pampered life for more than 50 years . During that time around the year 2000 it had a complete ground up " Nut and Bolt " restoration right down to the original color white pin C stripe on the the sides . The car has been completely brought back to its full original condition and executed to a #1 condition. It's absolutely "Stunning " ! We have a signed documented affidavit from the original owner stating that he purchased this car new and it retains its original 79000 miles. We are excited to offer such an exquisite Super Stang ! The K - Code Mustang is the most desirable and most valuable of the early Ponies and this one is a standout ! Everything on this coupe is correct and right as it was delivered new from the dealer including the sound damping undercoating that was an extra charge provided by the dealer . This car runs and drives like new and everything works with the exception of the clock which is easily repairable . It sports the Rally Pac gauges as well as the steel style wheels . ___________________________________________________________________________________ The HiPo engine was engineered to increase performance and high-RPM reliability over standard 289 fare. It had solid lifters with hotter cam timing; 10. 5:1 compression; a dual point. centrifugal advance distributor; smaller combustion chamber heads with cast spring cups and screw-in studs; low restriction exhaust manifolds; and a bigger. manual choke 595 CFM carburetor (std 289-4V was 480 CFM). The water pump. fuel pump. and alternator/generator pulley were altered; fewer vanes. extra spring. and larger diameter respectively; to help handle the higher engine speeds. Even the HiPo’s fan was unique. Bottom end improvements included thicker main bearing caps and balancer. larger diameter rod bolts. and a hardness tested and counterweighted crankshaft. all for high-rpm reliability. The HiPo carried SAE gross ratings of 271 hp (202 kW) at 6. 00 rpm and 312 lb·ft (423 N·m) at 3. 00 rpm. The HiPo engine was used in modified form by Carroll Shelby for the 1965-1967 Shelby GT350. raising rated power to 306 hp (228 kW) at 6. 00 rpm through use of special exhaust headers. an aluminum intake manifold. and a larger carburetor. The Shelby engine also had a larger oil pan with baffles to reduce oil starvation in hard cornering. Shelby also replaced the internal front press-in oil gallery plugs with a screw-in type plug to reduce chances of failure. From 1966 to 1968. Shelby offered an optional Paxton supercharger for the 289. raising its power (on Shelby GT350s) to around 390 hp (291 kW). The K-code HiPo engine was an expensive option and its popularity was greatly diminished after the 390 and 428 big-block engines became available in the Mustang and Fairlane lines. which offered similar power (at the expense of greater weight) for far less cost. ___________________________________________________________________________________ READY TO SHOW AND GO !
