Description of 1966 Ford Fairlane |
1966 Ford Fairlane 500 2dr Club Coupe Up for sale is my 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 factory light weight clone dubbed the “Trouble Maker”. The car was built as a replica of the original light weight factory drag cars. This car was built exactly like the old time drag racers by an old time drag racer. This is not for the young or faint of heart. Here's a link to a YouTube video of me starting the car and walking around it while the engine is running. https://youtu.be/79C7Ps66IVE Drive train: The original 289 was replaced with a fire-breathing 460 big block. The engine was built by a professional shop in upstate NY. Engine has a big cam roller rockers electric fuel pump battery relocated to the trunk fuel cell in the trunk aluminum radiator old school over/under long tube headers and runs great. It runs just fine on high octane pump gas so need to worry about racing fuel. Engine runs great with no strange noises. I have a brand new set of Ford Racing high rise valve covers that go with the car. The cover on the driver’s side would need to be modified so as not to hit the master cylinder. I recently cut off the old mufflers so the exhaust is just straight pipes that terminate about half way back. It is very loud but you could easily fit mufflers and add dumps in front of the rear tires or run it straight out the back. Transmission is a stoutly built C6 with shift kit and 2500 stall converter. The shifter is a B&M so you can just drop it in drive for cruising or bang it through the gears without worry of hitting neutral or reverse. Transmission shifts just fine with no slippage or strange noises. The rear end is a built Ford 9” with posi traction and 3.50 gears which makes it nice for cruising. Big/little tires front/back. Tires are nearly new and have plenty of tread on them. Body: Since it was built as a light weight clone the entire front clip front and rear bumpers are fiberglass to make the car lighter and faster. Otherwise the remainder of the body is steel. Entire car is painted in a beige color with vinyl nostalgia drag racing stickers applied all over the place as can be seen in the pictures. Body is straight. Paint looks good but this is not a show car/trailer queen so it’s not perfect. Glass is in good shape except that there are scratches in the windshield from wiper blades that might polish out. Interior: Interior was also modified to look like a factory drag car. Original builder added aftermarket turn signal switch (and exterior lights on the front) to pass inspection in NY state. Speedo is not hooked up nor are any of the original idiot lights. There are aftermarket tach fuel gauge oil temp and amp gauges to keep tabs on the vitals. Otherwise interior is largely original. Door panels are in good condition. Look closely at the pictures and you’ll see a couple of areas where builder put black vinyl tape to patch hold in headliner and rear seat. The car is a blast to drive and gets tons of looks/questions when I take it out. The only reason I’m selling is to make space in my garage and help fund another restoration project I’m working on. Not in a hurry nor am I desperate to sell it so no low balls offer please. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty implied. I have clear Ohio title in my name. Ask all questions prior to bidding. All sales final. |
