Description of 1969 Ford Mustang Convertible |
1969 Ford Mustang Convertible - Base model -200 6 cylinder 3 speed The following is the history as I have been able to piece it together and as it was told to me. It is not complete and it may not be completely factual as some of it is second handbut I believe it to be mostly true. The car was built in Dearborne Michigan on June 6th 1969 and was shipped to Hal Lowery Ford (no longer in business) in Chambersburg PA where it was purchased by a Navy Seabeefresh off a tour of Vietnam. The car performed daily driver dutiesuntil thelate seventies when itwas put into weekend driver local car shows and parade duty. This iswhat it was used for up until the owner's death in 2012. At that time it was passed down to hisbrother who decided to restore the car in his memory. Inmid 2013 it received new tires brakes a fuel pump oil pressure sender an alignment and a fresh PA Inspection. New parts were collectednew valances front and rear (both originals were dented) a hood apassenger fender (the brother had dented that side of the car in a parking lot) bumpers front and rear (originals had rust) carpet (the original carpet had deteriorated) interior door panels (speaker holes) exterior door handles quarter ornaments an antenna and rear truck letters(pitted). The floors were welded on inside and riveted underneath (not pretty but solid). Body work was completed and the car was put into primer. Then the second brother passed. He willed the car to his nephew who was in charge ofthe estate. He wasn'tinto cars at all andwanted no parts ofpaintingorassembling the carand that's whenI purchased the car. The new paintconsists of3 coats PPG Meadowlark Yellow overtop of a PPG sealer coat. Which has been wet sanded and buffed. All of the new parts were added during the assembly. The good and the bad. The Good:The car drives straight handlesand brakes as it should. It was inspected in PA in 8/2014 just prior to the passing of the second brother.I drove it back to my place which is roughly 50 miles north with no issues in November of 2014. The Bad: The convertible top was new in 1969. Neither of the brothers felt you should drive a convertible with the top up or in the rain so it was never replaced. The vinyl is more than shot. It has many holes from normal wear and tear. The frame itself is complete and in good condition. (YOU WILL NEED AN ENCLOSED TRAILER in order to keep the new carpet & orginal seatsdry)There are spots where dirt blew into the fresh paint. It is difficult to see in daylight butspot arethere. The body work was done by an amateur and isn't perfect. You need to look hard for the flaws. The underside of the car is not detailed. I would stay this is a nice driver and would do well at the local show level. It isNOT a MCA award winner. I have owned MCA winners so I may be a bit harsh but prefer to be honest.
