Description of 1981 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 |
Bought this truck at a company auction. The truck was a Beechcraft fire truck and spent its whole life on the Beech airfield. It has low miles. but it was used. so its not perfect. The truck was equipped with a water tank and pump in the bed which was removed by Beech before the sale. As you can see in the picture. the bed rotted along the edges where the tank sat. It does have power steering and brakes. but no A/C or power windows. Its not a Cadillac. but it has all the A-List parts for a hardcore full-size build; Dana 60 front axle. 14 bolt rear. nbsp;NP205 transfer case and TH400 trans. The engine is a 462 big block (. 30 over 454) with a moderate mechanical cam and 702 heads. Rockers are original. but are Poly locked to prevent movement. The original engine had a flat cam from idling for long periods at a time. The new engine has exactly 12 miles on it and the cam was broke in properly with ZDDP additive. The truck drove well on the test drive and on the way home. With the 3. 73 gears I could easily do 65mph and the engine wasn't screaming and the stock exhaust made for a quiet ride. With the exception of a new engine the truck is bone stock and ready for someone to build it to their liking. The truck is for sale or trade locally. so I reserve the right to end the bidding early. Payment is due within 48hrs of end of auction. |
