Description of 1979 GMC Sierra 1500 Grand Sierra Heavy Half-Ton |
1979 GMC Sierra Grande “Heavy Half Ton” Pickup VIN: TCL449J506234 Remember the bedtime story of “Jack and the Beanstalk” your Mama told you as a kid? How Jack went to town to peddle the family cow and returned with a handful of “magic beans” instead of cash? We’ve been in the collector car business for the better part of two decades and over the years I’ve trained a select number of folks to go out and “birddog” fun. unique vehicles for us. Every so often I’m surprised by what Humphrey arrives back at the shop with and was very pleased when he drove in with this sharp Jimmy Sierra Grande Pickup! Take a good look at my photos. It is very obvious the attentiveness and care taken by past owners has really paid off! With just a casual glance you might think this is just another ol’ truck. But. just like I did. look a little closer and you’ll realize what a find this thing really is! The first hint is when you check for rust in the usual spots. For those not familiar with the Great Pacific Northwest. specifically Western Washington. we get our share of misty rain. but hardly ever any snow. At the first sign of a falling flake everyone panics and stays home. School is cancelled and business grinds to a stop from “sick” workers calling in. Truth is. our winter roads are rarely salted. so you’ll see very few vehicles here with any serious rust problems! Climb over. under and around this rig - I know you’ll come up smiling as there are no body corrosion issues! When you open the hood. you’re in for another nice surprise. This truck still has an original. clean. great-running 350 V-8 motor. The second you fire it up. you’ll know it was built to last! I love the deep burble this strong four-barreled engine makes through the easy-breathing real dual exhaust system. Almost sounds like a hot rod! I had my shop tech look over the mechanicals and all that was needed were fresh sparkplugs. an oil change and a new set of mufflers. Here’s how the VIN code breaks down: T – GMC Production C - Conventional Cab. 2WD L - 5. 7 L (350 CID) V-8; 4 BBL Carb 4 - “Heavy Half-Ton” ie “Big Ten” 4 - Pickup 9 - last digit of model year (1979) J - GMAD Plant – Janesville. Wisconsin The data plate indicates the truck was delivered to the Seattle Sales District after its scheduled production date. It has been a local rig since new! There is no special order information shown. so it most likely entered regular dealer stock inventory and was sold in the fall of that year. Up in the cab you’ll find a tilt steering column. a woodgrain dash with complete factory instrumentation including oil-water-amp gauges (the amp needle doesn’t move). Look at the pictures of the bench seat. It’s in great shape on both the base and backrest as shown and you’ll really appreciate the center fold-down armrest. The Grand Sierra cab upgrade included tilt steering. woodgrain dash. full factory carpet and it’s in solid. clean condition as well. About the only thing a new owner will want to do is replace the radio. The faceplate’s gone and it was a cassette model anyway. so a few hundred into a nice CD/Bluetooth system will be money well-spent! I really like the heavy-duty 15-inch steel wheels with Chevy center caps; all four are straight and true and add to the truck's sporty appearance. They’re wrapped with very decent LT 235/75R15 Wildcat tires having at least 80 percent remaining tread all around. Outside I know you’ll also be impressed by the classic factory color white paint. It’s had one quality re-spray and is as clear and bright as the day this truck rolled off the Janesville assembly line. Please feel free to email or contact me with any questions. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173. You’re welcome and encouraged to come by my Auburn. WA warehouse to inspect & drive the truck or have a service do it for you. You might also make an offer before the end of the auction. as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end. I always reserve the right to sell during this period. Though I have every confidence it can be driven long distance immediately. the truck is being sold "as-is. where-is". Please don't be upset if I've missed something or a small issue comes up as no used vehicle is ever perfect. Many of our past buyers have flown in from as far away as Alaska. the east coast. Texas. Canada and even Mexican Baja to drive their new purchase home. While I wouldn't relish the thought of driving back through a Midwestern snowstorm. if you do arrive here at Seattle-Tacoma International I'm always happy to meet there and help you get started on an exciting road trip! A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction’s conclusion with the balance to be paid by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. I can accept PAYPAL. but if you plan to pay any more than the deposit through them I’ll first need to invoice you and ask that you cover the 3. 5% fee PayPal charges. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later as you’re more than welcome to do so before the auction ends. If you decide to have the truck shipped home. there are scores of vehicle transport companies to choose from. I send off vehicles regularly and suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're EBay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote. Call them directly at (888)587-5096. Give the phone rep my affiliate number (2362642) so they can pull up all our information for station-to-station or even door-to-door quotes. As an alternative. you might also get bids from the U-Ship. com website. You’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn. Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. You’re welcome to keep the rig free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day. |
