Description of 1972 GMC Jimmy |
Here is an original GMC Jimmy in excellent condition. The following is what I know about the history of this truck: It was built in early 1972 at the Fremont California GM plant. The vehicle was then shipped up to Eugene Oregon where it was purchased by the long time original owner of over 40 years. The original owner loved and babied this truck as evidenced by the condition. Tragically, he original owner developed Alzheimer disease at which time it was sold by his family. The truck had remained in Oregon until it was purchased by the second owner during the summer of 2014. The second owner sold the truck to me in the fall of 2014. He was very sad to see it go however for personal reasons he was unable to keep this remarkable gem. I intended to be the long term keeper of this truck however my situation has changed as well. This truck is in excellent original condition. Much of the paint is original however it does look like the sides were repainted at some point (not an Earl Schieb job though). The bumpers and grill are original and straight. There is one small ding in the grill. (1/2 dime size). The lenses and markers are original. Two of the 4 front headlights are the original T3 lights (so rare). The original 350 engine runs like a champ and is unchanged (Even the original smog equipment is in tact). The upholstery is also in tact. The driver seat is split in two locations (see photos). The Muncie Sm 465 4 speed tranny shifts nicely and adds to the enjoyment of driving. It is also equipped with factory posi traction (see broadcast). The original tailgate is straight and closes properly. There are two holes cut into the sides of the truck. The original owner had auxiliary fuel tanks installed during the OPEC fuel crisis of the mid 1970's. There is no rust at all in this truck. It has been garage kept. THe odometer shows the truck to have 97,693 miles. I believe this to be the correct mileage of the vehicle. THe wheels are from a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice police pursuit cruiser. The casting is very heavy. They have been powder coated GMC orange. The GMC center caps are NOS. The tires have less than 100 miles. The original top comes with this truck and it is in great shape. It retains all original glass. and hardware. The hatch functions properly. There are two spots where some repair has occurred. I will try to photo the top this week. THe original sun visors also come with the truck (See photo). The truck was lowered by the second owner. The frame is not cut. The spindles, hocks and coils are from CPP. |
