Description of 1978 GMC Jimmy High Sierra |
1978 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with full convertible top. Recently rebuilt GMC 400 with roughly 3000 miles since rebuild. Has mild cam, long tube headers, Edelbrock intake, and big bore quadrajet carb. TH350 trans rebuilt about 3 years ago with B&M shift kit. 8 inch lift. 385/70/16 Toyo Open Country Muds. 16x10 steel wheels with faux beadlocks. FlowMaster mufflers with custom side exit exhaust (not TOO loud, just right with minimal drone in the cab). Truck was repainted by previous owner. It’s a nice daily driver quality paint job, but not show quality paint and not perfect. Interior is mostly stock including original seats, new dash cover, and have new front seat belts that still need to be installed. Inside of the top has been Rhino lined and is in good condition. New Curt tow hitch recently installed. Rear electric window goes up and down with no issue. Truck rides and drives with no rattles or weird noises. It’s a super solid truck starts every time and runs perfect with no issues. Air conditioning, power steering, and brakes all work great. Could easily be a daily driver with minimal work. I’ve owned it for the last year and a half and have continued to improve it over that time. It has good street manners for a truck this size. Can idle in traffic all day long and drive down the highway at speed without issue. It does, however, need a few small things to make it a perfect daily driver. I will keep working on these small things until the truck sells : Headlights, running lights, and taillights all work. Needs brake lights and blinker wiring diagnosed to get them working. New trans pan gasket (previous owner installed pan with permatex instead of an actual gasket, recently started a slight leak. Needs to be scraped clean and correct gasket installed). If you are going to do a lot of street driving, it could use new shocks and steering stabilizers and an alignment once these are installed. Driver door window crank splines are slightly stripped so the handle comes off easy. I’ve been using vice grips to roll the window up and down for now. As nice as it is, this GMC Jimmy is not a show quality trailer queen. It is however, a super nice lifted square body K5 that you can drive daily and use as a truck. During my ownership I’ve used it for fun on weekends, including mild offroad mud and trail use. It’s a beast offroad. It’s been Adult owned and driven only by myself and the previous owner since the rebuild. Never been abused, in super deep mud, or stuck. Just a super nice, drivable, enjoyable rig that looks and performs GREAT.
