In. V-8 Transmission: 3 Speed Automatic (THM400) Accessories: Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes This is a original 1972 truck camper in amazing condition with a great 70s style olive-green paint. We are the 3rd owners of this truck camper and have enjoyed it since June of 2000. It has been stored inside a pole barn during this time. Alot of maintenance has been done to both the camper and the truck to keep them in original, working condition. This camper needs nothing, just hop in and drive across the country site seeing. This camper has a ton of provenance, all appliance manuals come with the vehicle along with the original purchase receipts, title application from 1972 and the title transfers from each of the three owners. It has been nicknamed "Cousin Eddie" after the Chevy Chase movie Christmas Vacation. Truck Camper History The first owner wanted a camper for him and his wife to travel with during retirement. He ordered the GMC dually truck from the dealer and had a 14 foot camper body built onto the truck. The chassis cab truck was purchased new from Kroblen GMC Truck Sales in Grand Rapids, Michigan on January 12, 1972. The owner then drove the truck to KaRhon Campers in Bannister, Michigan to have the custom built camper body with rear trunk added. The camper was finished on April 21, 1972. The original owners put the majority of the miles on the camper traveling to Florida and around the country before they sold it in May of 1995 to the second owners. 1st Owner purchased in January 1972 2nd owner purchased in May 1995 3rd owner purchased in June 2000 GMC Truck The truck starts right up, drives, stops and shifts good. The 400 cu. in. V-8 engine runs really smooth and quiet. Headlights, turn signals, stop lights and running lights work. The truck is wearing its original dark olive paint. The body is in really good condition for the age. There are some small rust spots at the bottom of the fenders and some along the rockers near the door gasket. The frame is in good shape with only surface rust. The interior of the truck cab is beautiful. The original seat cover is perfect, no cracks or splits. It came ordered in 1972 with a full-foam cushion which is really comfortable. The dash pad and steering wheel are mint with no cracks. All the gauges and lights work. Radio works and the original radio delete plate is included. Repairs and Part Replacement: • New wheel bearings were installed in 2001. • New rear leaf springs were installed in July of 2001. • New radiator was installed in 2000 along with new radiator and heater hoses. • New front brake pads, rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders were installed in 2001. • Carburetor was rebuilt and tuned in October of 2011. • Battery was installed in June of 2013. • New tires (6) plus a spare tire were in installed in July of 2015. The rims have been converted from the original split rims for safety. • A B&M transmission cooler and gauge was installed last year to monitor transmission temperatures on long trips. The transmission has been recently resealed to stop some leaks which are common for the GM HydroMatics. It has new seals and a fresh transmission oil filter. There is still a slight leak but is very a little. • Exhaust manifold gaskets and exhaust pipe gaskets were installed earlier this year. Originally the camper came with an auxiliary gas tank (filler door is on the lower driver's side corner of the camper near the cab), but the tank and hoses were removed years ago by the original owner. The cab roof clearance lights are not working, not sure if they were disconnected when the camper body was installed. Camper The camper's interior cushions were reupholstered in 2001 and the wood framing under the over-cab bed was rebuilt. Propane Fridge does work but was mostly used as an ice box. The condition of water tank and system for the kitchen/bathroom is unknown, we have never used them, but they appear to be in working order. The bathroom includes a toilet and sink, but no shower. The propane furnace was removed for safety (the original furnace is included with the camper) and a propane hose was routed for a Mr. Buddy heater (not included). There is some paint fading and paint loss on the curb-side of the camper body. There are spots that have been touched up with white paint. All exterior clearance lights have been resealed and caulked. ********************************************************** The truck camper is original so the paint and body are not perfect.
