Description of 1971 GMC C15/C1500 Pickup

This truck belonged to a lifelong mechanic who passed away recently. It has a GM Crate 383 PN/12497317. The engine is dry and doesn’t appear to leak anywhere. It has headers, GM single plane intake, an MSD distributor, MSD ignition module, Jegs Super Coil, and a Holley 600 carburetor. It’s got a Turbo 400 transmission behind it that feels like it has a stall converter. His wife told me that it had a Detroit Locker in the 12 bolt rear end. I haven’t confirmed whether it’s a Posi-Track or a Detroit but it is certainly one or the other. The exhaust is 2.5” all the way back with glass packs and rumbles. It has power steering and disc brakes in the front.

The body as seen in pictures is straight, with rust in the rockers, cab corners, and tailgate. I removed the carpet for photos. The only noticeable dent is in the passenger upper cab. It has a sunroof that looks to have been professionally installed. The wood in the bed is aged. The only sheet metal not original to the truck appears to be the hood. It was originally a 4 speed, the clutch pedal was cut at the dash line. Everything is there to convert back to four speed, one would need a clutch pedal, trans, and bell crank. The original shift hole was covered up and the B&M was installed behind.

The interior is clean but shows signs of age with 70’s plush blue additions. The windshield is cracked, windows roll up and down. There are 2 partial build sheets in the lower and backrest of the seat that are original to the truck.

I don’t know much about the engine/torque converter/transmission but it has incredible power and most certainly has a shift kit. It’ll need tires and the accelerator pump is weak but all lights/signals function properly and I’ve driven it around town comfortably with no issues. The D/S exhaust hanger in front of the axle is broken. Feel free to call or text with questions. It’s a great old truck but needs some TLC. It’s located in Grand Junction, Colorado. Buyer will be responsible for shipping.
