Someone is Going to Get a Great Buy

I paid $6,000 for this truck with the understanding that the 4WD wasn’t engaging. Before I bought the truck, we drove out to the country and couldn’t get the 4WD transfer lever to move more than a ½ inch.

So, I told him to make me a price I couldn’t say “no” to. He said he gave $6,500 and would take $6,000. That’s well bought IMO. (Transfer case would be $700-$1,000.)

Talked to a mechanic friend, he said get it in your backyard, drive it real slow and work the lever back and forth. I did for a few seconds and it popped into 4-high. Drove it back and forth and then tried 4-low and it worked, too. (Watched a video on how to transfer, so it was done right, no pausing in the “Neutral” spot.) Mechanic then said it probably hadn’t been engaged in a long time.

Following is what I’ve done:

$1,200 for new upper ball joints, new wiper control module and steering column control arm, ignition switch, battery cables, headlight, some other small stuff (told my mechanic to go over it and see what it needed). Newer 750 amp battery (I like a big battery).

$2,100 for new Go Rhino bed bar, Dee Zee side steps, Putco SSR chrome bed rails, front bed panel cap, tailgate cap, front chrome bumper, rear step bumper. (Previous owner had custom rock-crawler channel-iron bumpers front and back. I like a factory look. Have a brand-new front bumper bump strip, not installed.)

$1,300 for new Procar XL Rally seats and the 2 mounts for ’88 OBS. (They sit in factory spot for max leg room. Previously, had 2 buckets on homemade mounts that killed the leg room.) New cloth sun visors, seatbelt extenders.

Pulled out all interior except for dash and painted black with Duplicolor plastic paint with adhesion promoter on plastic bits, did headliner and carpet with Duplicolor fabric paint. Believe this truck was white with red interior from factory and last owner wanted blue with gray / blue interior. I’m OK with blue exterior, but like black interior. Did have standard trans, now has automatic.

The lift looks like 2” to 3” to me, just enough to clear the 33” tires.

Undercarriage, floor pans, doorjambs look very good.

350 engine with throttle body injection and chrome headers. Starts and runs good. (I’ve driven less than 50 miles.) Start every week and move to keep battery charged. Let sit idling in over 100-degree summer heat and temp gauge is constant 195.)

Sometimes I can “hear” the transfer case, may be because there’s a hole in the floorboard (where standard trans was), sounds like a chain spinning, not grinding or squealing.

Needs: new paint, this paint has bubbling. There is a tiny cancer spot on lower right-side fiberglass bed fender support. Needs better carpet, seatbelt retractors, stereo speakers, standard trans hole covered, door panel pull trim and switch mounts, AC compressor, shift-lever position indicator, Go Rhino bed bar secured, TLC.

I'm old and fat and have trouble getting in and out of this, because of the lift and seat bolsters. That and I bought a ’92 Z71 that’s not lifted, so this truck is just sitting and I want it to go to someone who’ll appreciate it. If I can get my $6K and .43 cents on the dollar for my new parts I’ll let it go.

Note 1: When I created this ad, the eBay VIN search indicated some kind of “minor issue” with the title that makes no sense. I have a clear, normal Arkansas title in my name, it’s not salvage or anything strange.

Note 2: Have 4 brand new BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A 33 x 12.50 R15, same size as on truck, $1,100 from Summit. Tires on truck are OK, I only bought them because as oil goes up, tires will too. Will sell them to new owner for $1K, if he or she wants them. They are NOT part of the sale price.

Truck is sold “as is, where is.” Has clear Arkansas title. Is located in Mountain Home, Arkansas (Baxter County). Buyer is responsible for delivery, seller will make himself available at time of pick up.

$300 PayPal deposit due within 24 hours of auction close. Balance due in 7 days by bank transfer (preferred) or cash, no check of any kind.
