Description of 1993 Honda Accord SE |
I am selling this car AS IS for parts or repair. I know virtually nothing about auto mechanics, but will do my best to disclose every problem with the car that I am aware of. It would be a good, solid car for someone who could repair it themselves. It was always reliable, but now requires several significant repairs. I acquired the car from my sister in August 2006. I have the repair receipts going back to that date. AutoCheck records indicate the car was in a minor accident in Jan 1994 with damage to a quarter panel, but I am unaware of the incident and never noticed any damage, repair, or repainting on the car. AutoCheck also indicated the odometer mileage recorded when the title was transferred to me as not actual. I do not know why that happened since I am certain an actual reading was done at the time. The engine is fine and the car starts and runs beautifully, but the brake pedal goes to the floor and the shift lever is stuck in neutral which moves the car forward, however it can't be shifted into reverse. Just hours before getting stuck in neutral, I had successfully put it in reverse to back out of a driveway, and then cautiously drove it 1 1/2 miles to a new location. Both problems occurred over the past year while I had the car garage-stored. Prior to that, the front and rear brakes (front brakes 3/2013 at 99644 miles and rear brakes 1/2014 at 100,859 miles) had been done and the car was braking fine (the ABS light had been coming on and off for a long time, but my mechanic couldn't find a problem - however there may be a glitch in the system). According to my mechanic, the brake problem is likely the master cylinder or brake line. Prior to storage, there were no problems shifting except that it was a little difficult to move the lever from park - it was stiff, but movable. This could be a linkage problem from what I understand. The power steering pump was replaced 12/2014 and the mechanic told me the car needs a new rack and pinion. The pump makes some noise, but the steering has been fine. The brakes, shifting problem, and rack and pinion are the main problems with the car. All 4 tires (Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring) are in excellent condition. They were bought 12/2003 at 100322 miles. No problems noticed with front end alignment. Ride is smooth. The oil pan will need replacement before long according to my mechanic. The AC doesn't cool due a leak in the system. The heater works fine. The battery is less than 3 years old. A new radiator was put in 10/2010. Front coil springs replaced 3/2009. Front sway bar links replaced 9/2008. Front axles replaced 11/2007. Timing belt and water pump replaced at 69284 miles. The exhaust system is fine - it was replaced 4/14 at 102732 miles - resonator was replaced 3/15 at 110054 miles. The lock on the driver's side needs replacement, as well as the plastic around the interior handle. That door can only be opened from the inside. Power locks and windows work. There is a small gap between the driver's side window and rubber seal at the top left corner which causes some noise at high speeds - it was like that when the car was new and never got fixed. The moonroof's sliding sunshade is stuck in the open position. Bose sound system does not work - sometimes the radio will come on while driving (loose connection somewhere?), but the cassette player no longer works. The exterior antenna has broken off. The windshield has a 1/2" chip, which has remained unchanged since it happened over a decade ago, so it is unlikely that a crack would occur at this point. The interior is quite clean and in very good condition overall considering the age of the car. The leather on the driver's seat is very worn and the rest of the leather has light scuffs, stains, small gouges and areas of abrasion. The trunk seal must not be tight on the driver's side because some mold/mildew developed in the rear corner area (see detail photo), with some rust beneath the carpet. The trunk carpet has multiple stains and spots. Rusted areas on the body are shown well in the photos. The trunk lid was inadvertently lightly covered with a very fine mist of white spray paint that blew over from a nearby painting project - it is barely noticeable. The car comes with both original keys and manual, replacement carpet mats in tan, compact spare tire, original jack and tool kit for tire changes. Please feel free to ask any questions. I can provide additional photos on request. I ask that the buyer pick up the car within 3 days of the auction's ending. It will have to be towed, as it is not safe to drive due to the brakes. |
