Description of 1991 Honda Accord

1991 HONDA ACCORD LX WAGON, VIN# 1HGCB9851MA013692
My father was the original owner, and I inherited it in 2002.
The vehicle is in Irvine, CA for inspection & test drive, and buyer pick up.
The buyer will be required to show a valid driver's license for the purpose of filling out DMV's Notice of Release of Liability.
PROS:
  • Low Mileage, only 124,350 miles
  • Original Paint, No Rust
  • Engine runs good
  • Radio works
  • Clean title
  • Comes with Original Owner's Manual and Certificate of Title

CONS:
  • Problem with Automatic Transmission Unit (TCU/TCM). Most of the time only 2nd & 3rd gears work. Occasionally you get 1st & 2nd, or all 4 gears. According to internet searches, this is a fairly common problem with the Accords of this period. Disconnecting the battery resets the TCU and it works sometimes. I have replaced the original TCU with a salvage TCU off eBay, but this did not correct the problem. Both TCUs come with the car.
  • Water Pump is leaking slowly. You need to add coolant periodically.
  • A/C does not blow cold, needs recharge.
  • Brake Lamp Warning Light is lit, even though the brake lights are working normally. There may be a short somewhere, as the battery dies if the car is not used for a week. The braking system is working fine.
  • Radio antenna extends and retracts only partially. Radio works.
  • There are dents, dings and scratches but overall the car still looks presentable. The worst dent can be seen in right front wheel well, and perhaps the worst scratch is on the right mirror housing.
