Description of 1991 Infiniti Q45 |
A 1991 Infiniti Q45, now for auction on eBay Out of the Wrapper: 1991 Infiniti Q45 Luxury Sedan Please wait a few moments while our high-resolution photos load. One of the most luxurious cars of its time, Infiniti's flagship, the Q45, can still hold a candle to today's cars, a quarter of a century later. Back in 1989, when the first-generation Q45 was launched with an infamous, perhaps ill-conceived "mystic" T.V. advertising campaign that showed a flock of geese or a fog-shrouded mountain but never the actual car, it was a true standout, featuring a 4-cam, 4-valve 4.5-liter V8 developing 278 horsepower and 292 lb/ft of torque, resulting in 0 - 60 times in the high 6 to low 7-second range. The luxury sports car also featured ABS, a driver's airbag, active multi-link suspension with coil springs on all four corners, and a viscous limited slip differential. All that high-tech came in a sleek body that didn't use much chrome or any of the usual luxury-car embellishments. Up front, there was no traditional grille, just a large, artisanal cloisonne badge. This most luxurious Nissan ever built carried a $38,800 price tag in 1991. The car offered here, VIN *JNKNG01C1MM106321* was initially used as a company car by an Infiniti executive based in Los Angeles and then sold to a semi-retired Gentleman who parked the car in the climate-controlled garage of his winter home in Palm Desert, California, using it sparingly during his annual visits. Total mileage accrued in 25 years: 29,970! The mileage is confirmed by a clear AutoCheck report which is included in the sale. Also included are the original window sticker, all factory books, even the introductory cassette tape! Heart of the Q45: the marvelous Infiniti V8! This one starts, idles, and runs simply perfect, befitting its super low mileage. Everything is toothbrush clean, just as it came from the factory. Black Obsidian finish looks as good as ever. There are no scrapes, dings, dents or bubbles marring the sleek coachwork. Factory paint is smooth as glass. Autocheck report does not show any stress-inducing mishaps at all - one look at the car confirms it. Infiniti's alloys don't show any curb rash, are shod with MICHELIN radials all around that show plenty of tread. Apparently, the power sunroof had not been used at all. It works, but is pretty slow. Digital A/C blows ice cubes on demand. The electronic dash displays function flawlessly. Interior remains in mint, unblemished condition. With its unadorned, smooth interior surfaces - no chrome or wood accents - the first-generation Q45 truly was a breed apart, as luxury cars went. Dash doesn't show the least bit of dryness, warping, or hairline cracking. Uniquely backlit Infiniti gauges. Note the mileage! Q45 surprised many luxury car customers with its firm leather seats, a far cry from the plush and cushy benches they were accustomed to. Looks like nobody ever sat here, just perfect. Ready for a test drive? There are no signs of use in the trunk. Unused tools; spare has never touched the ground. Reference-quality undercarriage. A Palm Desert resident, it's doubtful that this car has ever been driven in the rain. How's a low-mileage 25-year-old Japanese luxury car drive, you might wonder? Well, in a nutshell: it drives like a brand-new Japanese luxury car. After enjoying a spirited drive in the Q45, we once again realize just how superior Japanese engineering was at the time. The car feels like it's hewn from a solid block of billet. There are no rattles, no squeaks, and the interior noise level is astonishingly low (contemporary tests were quoting 65 db). the best of both worlds: power and performance, rolled into one timelessly attractive package. Is this 25-year-old, first generation, one-owner, low-mileage Q45 a collector car yet? Our guess is as good as yours, but for our money, it sure is an impressive ride! You are most welcome and encouraged to view this fine automobile in Ventura, by appointment, during the auction, or have someone inspect it for you. Please, perform your due diligence before you bid.
