Description of 1973 International Harvester Scout

This truck has been great to me. but it is time to watch it go. I have been working on it as a project for the last few years. but I simply do not have the time to make it what it could and should be. I cut out most of the rust. I installed new suspension. I put in new plugs/wires. new fuel filter. Cleaned out all the old carpet. etc. Right now it is only a few steps form being really great. The list of things I was planning to do include 1. Weld in sheet metal (some included. ex. new rockers from SSS). 2. Give it some paint. 3. New seat covers or upholstery. My welding sucked. so it is better in some places than others. Could use a good grinding and maybe a re-do in places. I put in the long door-sil panels that fixed the greatest amount of rust in the floorpan. The rockers are the next big thing and those pre-formed (and thick!) pieces are included. It runs very well and the 4WD works excellent. Climbs up almost ANYTHING. Runs smoothly. good acceleration. Occasional cold start issues. like many carb. vehicles at high altitude. but after a few tries it always starts. I'm guessing it is a vacuum line fix that would be simple. Plenty of rust. but most of it is gone. and just the holes remain. For someone with experience with welding or metal fabrication I'm sure it would be quick and easy to patch. Mostly original everything. it has a ton of character and with a little attention could become a beautiful trail vehicle. mechanically it is ready to climb mountains. and has recently.
