Description of 1978 International Harvester Scout Traveler |
For sale is my pictured 1978 International Harvester Scout II Traveler. Nice driver the way it is or make this into a restoration project while you enjoy driving it. Everything works with the exception of the cruise control and the radio. The cruise will work if you can find a used cruise control vacuum diaphragm and the linkage that attaches to the carb. All the other gauges work, horn, wipers, lights, tilt steering, etc. Engine is a 345 V8 that was professionally rebuilt in 2006 with new pistons, rings, bearings, cam & lifters, etc. The engine runs great with no leaks or smoke, starts every time. Recently replaced the water pump, belts, hoses, and fan shroud. Transmission is a torque flight 727. Dana 44 front and rear diffs. 4 wheel drive works great. The driver’s side of the vehicle is in great shape except for the paint. Door rocker has a couple small rust holes that need repaired. The passenger side front fender was replaced by a previous owner but appears to be in good condition. The passengers rear quarter has some rust around the wheel opening that a previous owner attempted to repair by putting a “homemade” fender flare on it which I recently removed. All floor pans are in good shape with no holes or major rust. Doors close properly and are in good condition. Windows roll up and down. The fiberglass top is in good condition other than a sunroof was installed by a previous owner. I bought another top, pictured off the vehicle, which I was planning to install. My plan was to put a Scout II tailgate (also pictured) on it instead of the fiberglass lift gate. I have all the parts to do it. If the winner of the auction would be interested in the white top with the Scout II tailgate I will install it at no cost. Interior is all original but needs new carpet and front seats reupholstered. Also needs new door seals. If you have any questions you can call me at 520 403-6412. Please don’t bid on this Scout if you have less than 10 feedbacks. |
