Description of 1957 International Harvester S120 |
The Foundation:This project was started a little over 2 years ago at Fame Hot Rods in Plymouth MN. The vision was to create an easy and comfortable vehicle to drive with the vintage appearance. To accomplish this we took the body off the original chassis and put it on a clean low mile 1997 GMC 1/2 ton chassis and kept the GMC running gear and vortec V8. All new floors were built and sealed to have a great platform that we could build from. We used Ridetech components for all of the air ride technologies (2) Tanks, (3) Compressors and (2) Optima yellow top batteries. The Body:As you will see from the pictures posted, we tried to retain the original patina, but there were areas that has some rust that we wanted to remove. The back end, rear wheel arches, and the passenger bottom were areas that there were new panels fabricated and the paint was matched to the original. The front fenders were extended a bit and the front bumper/valance was created and tied into the fenders. Inside the roof was re covered in an aluminum panel configuration for a clean and finished appearance. Once the body work was completed the interior was texture painted and then new glass and seals were installed. New West Coast mirrors, LED Projector Headlights with integrated blinkers and a visor were installed to finish off the exterior. The end result:The interior was finished off with some heated leather seats from a 2004 Denali and a heater from Vintage Air was installed for some air movement and the defrost. There are (4) functional seats with seatbelts, all doors work as they should, and the origional wiper motor was reconditioned to still function. There are all new gauges from Auto-Meter installed and operating. All electrical is new as we used a full Painless Wiring kit for everything. New wheels and tires were just installed last fall so any of the pictures with black wheels are not current. So many cool details that I am forgetting I am sure, but this give you an idea of what went into this build. So much fun to drive and its always a great conversation starter. This runs and drives amazing even at highway speeds. Let me know if you have any questions. I have posted this vehicle for sale locally and will end auction if its sold prior to listing expiring. I have a clear title for the GMC truck and the Metro. license it whatever way you feel works best. |
