Description of 1980 International Harvester Scout |
This is a1980 Scout II Turbo Diesel. I have owned, fixed up and driven this Scout for 14 years. I used the Scout for fly fishing trips in Oregon. This Scout was built in October of 1980 just before production ended. It is not the last Scout II built but it is one of the last. Note the mileage listed above is the engine mileage on the rebuilt diesel. The overall vehicle mileage is unknown. This Scout has a rebuilt SD33t with about 10,000 miles on it. I have made a few changes listed below. The black upper grill piece is a 1974 metal grill that I powder coated black and installed. If you want to bring it to original you can still buy the factory black plastic upper grill that has rectangular headlights. The 1974 looks way better however. Replaced vacuum boost brake system with Hydro Boost, the brakes are very powerful. Replaced Hitachi Alternator with Delco Remy 90 alternator. The most important change I made was to install a larger diameter free flowing exhaust system which gave the Scout significantly more power. This Scout has a good body with no bondo. There is minimal rust. I replaced all damaged panels with rust free panels I found in the desert in eastern Washington. Believe me that took a lot of hunting to find good panels. The hardest one to find was the travel top. After all the body panels were installed the Scout was professionally painted in the original color which is what you see in the photos. I have a complete set of shop manuals for Scout II and the diesel. I have the build sheet. I have a new body graphics decal (left and right side). I never installed it. To do list: The Scout could use new gages I never got around to that modification. The engine shutoff knob is not original, could not find one. The engine shutoff cable needs to be adjusted. This is a really nice Scout. |
