Description of 1968 International Harvester Scout

This is a 1968 that according to some local Scout guys was sold as a camper or sportsman's special with adds seen in National Geographic in 68. I don't know for certain my research has found nothing 100%but I am not a scout fanatic like some and Iam sure this advertisement will generate lots of speculation. What I do know is that is was a 266 V8 4 wheel drive with factory dual fuel tanks and a factory lift of about 2 inch compared with other standard 4x4 scouts. See VIN tag to see serial number in pictures.

I will start with the bad the scout is missing the long block I removed it and tried to see if anything was salvageable around 1990 and found that the crank was broken and both heads were warped and cracked along with the very visible huge hole through the water jacket where a rod exited. I thought about replacing it with a 345 and purchased a 345 complete engine which I ended up using in a dump truck BUT the extra 345 tin and intake are with this truck.

THE GOOD--everything else is here all the trim, engine tin EVERYTHING. I stripped most of the chrome years ago and it has been stored in the back. It was never wrecked and has no bondo or lead anywhere on the body . The frame is solidwith 0% rust through. The front window is broken but all trim is present . one side window is broken but has all trim. Miraculously All the glass in the top is present and unbroken plus the top has no rust through and is in way above average condition.

This isan outstanding candidate for full restoration in a rare version in a great year! Don't bother with sending low ball offers I have had it since the late 80's and have seen similar restored trucks bring in the 60-80 thousand dollar range. Theprice is reasonable for such a rare truck and is not negotiable.

I have the signed undated title plus an old letter from seller in 1988. many extra photos available.
