Description of 1976 International Harvester Scout |
This 1976 Scout Traveler Rallye definitely qualifies for "survivor" status, with all original components and much of the original documentation and only 116k miles. It has no signs of having ever been in a collision and has only had a cosmetic repaint early in it's life.It came factory with the Rallye package, 304, Borg Warner T-18 4 speed, Dana 20 Transfer case, Dana 44 axles, with 3.73's and disc front brakes. It's a rare truck with some great options. I purchased it from the man who owned it since 1982. It sat since 1989. I put a fuel bottle on it, installed a battery, dropped in a points distributor (the gold box was dead, presumably why it was parked, as they'd replaced a couple ignition wires to the switch in a failed diagnosis attempt), rebuilt the carb, topped off the coolant, and it fired right up with no internal noise or smoke. The brakes, clutch, power steering, transfer case, transmission, etc... all work. I've driven it around the neighborhood, the tires hold air, and it will drive onto a trailer. I have not registered it or driven it any significant distance. I love this truck, but have a 48 IH, a 71 Travelall, and am eyeballing a friends Travelette and 68 Travelall, so... Can't keep them all. Be well aware! This truck has not been registered in 29 years. It has sat. The fuel system is probably gunked up. I didn't even bother trying to put gas through the tank and lines. Prepare to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump. I purchased a new master cylinder and battery for it which will be included. Someone has cut a hole in the back of the roof for a camper style crank up vent. It was broken when I got the truck and has been removed. This was presumably the source of what little rust is on the truck. There is some rust through the edges of the rear cargo area and the front body mount supports (see pics). Inner rockers are solid. Aside from the front mounts, all rust seems to be cosmetic only. Frame, inner structure, core support, etc are all sound. Someone with intermediate level fabricating and welding skills could put this thing right. It's mostly patchwork.I've had the paint matched for some touch up work. a Pint will be included in the sale.I have a perfect seller rating with hundreds of sales, because I describe things accurately and answer questions honestly, but will take no responsibility for impulsive buyers who fail to ask questions or are unreasonably optimistic. I have the signed title from the last owner, and a Statement of transfer (see pics) in lieu of Notarization. Taking title should be no problem at all. Please look closely at the pics before bidding. I've tried to show all areas of concern. Thanks. Todd |
