Description of 1961 International Harvester Scout |
My 82 year old father purchased this nice little Scout about three years ago to drive around town. Diego (his dog) and dad have driven it quite often and have really enjoyed it. I am now listing it for sale and hoping to find him another classic car that is easier for him to drive. Something with Power Steering and Power Brakes. This Scout has been good to him and has never left him stranded. All things considered. I think it is a very collectible Scout. It is a 1961. which is the first year Scouts were produced. It has 4 wheel drive. a PTO Winch. a 4 speed transmission. twin stick transfer case. nbsp;the 152 cu. 4 cyl engine. and it is the half cab pickup model. The 1961 has the rare vacuum windshield wipers. fold down windshield and sliding side windows (which are included in the sale. just not installed for the pictures). The truck has obviously been repainted. but it does appear to be in original colors. Red with a White top. The restoration shows well. the Scout get compliments every time it goes to town. There are many new parts. including 5 new Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain tires. Someone has preformed a Springover lift conversion with beefed-up steering arms and a heavy duty front axle truss. The good news is that the Scout rides nice. and has no Bumpsteer whatsoever. There are no signs of any major collisions and there are no signs of rust. The rocker panels and floor are solid as a rock! This Lil 4 cyl. engine only knows how to run great. Pull the choke and it fires right up. The engine does not burn oil or smoke. and has no major oil leaks. I believe most the gauges work. but not the Horn or Temp. There are two fuel tanks. but he has never used the right tank. The brakes are typical of a 54 year old truck. nbsp;the steering. a little loose. and the Throw-out bearing has chattered a bit since he bought the truck. Show it on Saturday nights or put it to work on the ranch. either way it's a great little truck. The Arizona title is clear of liens and in my fathers name.
