Description of 1956 International Harvester S-120 |
FOR SALE AT NO RESERVE: 1956 International S-120 4x4 western ranch truck. Hard-earned patina rig that's very dry, owing to a life on the high plains out in the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. At serial number 0041, the earliest production S120 I've seen, I believe this truck was built in the fall of 1955. Color is Cascade light green over Adirondack green. Original line set ticket still on the driver side sun visor, pretty cool to see after nearly 70 years. Running and driving truck for your ranch/cabin or take it to the next level. Please see additional close up detail pics in linked FLICKR album and YouTube video. EXTERIOR: Nice patina, straight overall with a few dings here and there. Surface rust as shown in the pics, but as dry a truck as you'd ever hope to find. A few small pencil-tip blisters at the bottom of the cab(see FLICKR detail pics). Chrome is bright with no pitting. There is a crack in the windshield. INTERIOR: Very clean and usable as is, no rodents or smells. I believe everything works except turn signals and fuel gauge. Wipers need "help" starting, I give them a nudge with my hand. Heater works. Even the horn works! I don't have the radio cover plate. MECHANICAL:Starts up on the first revolution, runs smooth and drives out fine.Appears to be original drivetrain, BD240 engine, T98A transmission, NP201 transfer case and 4.55-1 final drive ratio. Factory 12 volt. 4x4 works in high and low range, and even the 4wd dash warning light works. Engine does not smoke and pulls strong. Will leak a spot of oil on the floor overnight. It's hard to hear in the videos, but my tuned ear detects a piston noise when the engine is cold, till the engine warms up. Likely skirt clearance, but should run a long while as is. Front tires are new, rears need replacement, they are $130 each. No,you can't fly in and drive it cross country, it's low geared and this is 70 year old truck. While not a highway cruiser, for a dump runner or ranch/cabin rig, this truck is usable as is, right now.
