Description of 1978 International Harvester Scout Traveler |
1978 International Scout Traveler V8 4x4 Convertible Survivor ***Re-Listed due to negligent buyer on the last auction. Always fear/dread being the victim of a fraudulent buyer. Please be experienced and read the eBay auction requirements. bid with confidence not with ignorance. Sometimes wonder if positive feedback is even important anymore? Hoping to restore my confidence in eBay auctions*** Very rare. highly optioned. nbsp;Traveler up for auction. These longer wheelbase Scouts (118") rarely come up for sale. The Traveler was the only produced between 1976 and 1980 and was the only International model to win the prestigious 4x4 of the year award. Not only are the very stable on the trail but the top comes off and makes one of the coolest convertible trucks around. International only produced ~37k models in 1978 but most of those we're the smaller Scout II's. This is a very nice. original. one owner Traveler. I've had many in the past and they are difficult to find that are not totally rusted out. The Traveler had been in storage under cover and it’s in unbelievable condition. I purchased from the grandson who inherited it after his grandfather past away. I have excellent documentation from the original line ticket to the original owner’s manual and even have a journal that was kept with oil changes and misc. maintenance records. I also have the Service manual for it which also has original notes in it…it’s all very cool and you just never see vintage stuff like this anymore. It was ordered and purchased primarily for towing a travel trailer. It has its original 345 with the very desirable square bore manifold. The Holley 4bbl carb was just rebuilt and it runs perfect. New valve cover gaskets. Automatic 727 tranny shifts firm and works great. Power brakes & power steering are in good condition. It starts up every time without effort! Does not smoke and you can hardly hear it run because it's so quiet but it does have nice dual exhaust. The odometer shows 1923 and the previous owner is very confident that the mileage is 111923. All mechanicals/gauges/lights work great (including the fuel gauge…bonus). It has rare factory AC (needs to be charged) & factory cruise control. The original paint is the very cool and unique. I call it "Tiffany" blue. The body is in very good condition without any damage or evidence of ever being in a wreck. It only has two small areas of rust: The lower front fender rocker has small trace of bubbles but not bad at all and the other area is the two front body mounts but they can be bought from Scoutparts. com for $55 ea. (http://scoutparts. com/products/?view=product&product_id=11685). A very easy repair to replace. Stock height with nice tires and nice original hubcaps. The blue interior is in great shape. The front seats are original but have seat covers on them to protect the original blue pattern that matches the rear bench. The front windshield is brand new as well as new lift gate struts. Side sliding glass on the topper and the convertible top has never been off! The chrome is in perfect shape all away around. The super tuff and desirable Dana's work great with no issues when in 4 wheel drive. The Traveler is very road worthy and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. I drive it every Saturday morning for coffee and Sundays to church and it receives attention wherever I go. Clear title in hand. Hate to sell and would love to keep but my daughter's college tuition is taking priority! Bid with confidence and do you research…this is a great investment and fairly priced. Think there are a couple of other Travelers listed here on eBay but they are listed for a considerably higher amount than I'm asking and I think this Traveler is just as nice and has more character. Their only old and original once. !Hagerty Insurance said this about International Scouts in 2013: “International Scout SUVs are up by 85 percent” and that “vintage SUVs are going to be the next big trend in car collecting” |
