1970 Jaguar E-Type Roadster Beautifully, professionallyrestored This1970 Jaguar E-Type roadster (OTS) built near the end of the series II run wasprofessionally restored about 12 years ago by its longtime 3rd owner (bought in 1982). In retains it's original 4.2 liter engine, which was a big improvement over the earlier 3.8 liter engines found in the series I cars. Primarily due to the improved cooling and increased power. This beautiful E-type started life with it's current owneras a very solid straight survivor in 1982. Basically at that time is was just a excellent used car. After 20 years of occasional use faced with it becoming a classic the owner embarked on a multi year, complete professional restoration, to the highest standardsat a cost of over $30,000. (today it would be wellover $60,000) It has received just thisone repaint and one restoration since new. It was stripped to bare metal and restored to its original glory in its stunningoriginal color combination of British racing green over tan interior. Still regarded by many collectors as the best color combinationsfor the E-Types. It was a very straight original survivor having never been damaged and in need of only minor metal repairs. This is awell documented and photographed restoration. Cosmetically this car is breathtaking to see. One of thefinest I have seenfor a driven example.The fit lines are excellent and all within the same tolerances from new. All five wire wheels were sent out to be reconditioned and re-chromed. All chrome inside and out was removed and re-plated to show quality and all mechanical components rebuilt to functionlike new.It receiveda complete new interior from BAS Ltd Jaguar trim specialist which still looks new. It illustrates the level of luxury not found in most sports cars of this era. The floor carpets still have the plastic on them. Included with the car is the Heritage Certificate shown in the last photo verifying the cars history, numbers & original color. It is a numbers matching car that still retains the look and reliability of a car just out of restoration. It has been driven only a few thousand miles since it was restored in 2002-04. It has won several trophies in local car shows. It was likely a concourse quality restoration when completed but was never intended to be a trailer queen, it has been driven enough to be the kind of classic you can enjoy for its intended purpose and still be very proud to enter in any show. The interior still looks new with no noticeable signs of wear. The paint still shines bright and has held up very well. This speaks to the overall quality of the restoration. Anyone can make a car look perfect for a few months. Only a high quality restoration still looks fresh12 years later. I would always prefer a car with an older restoration that was completed slowly for a long time owner over a just finished car restored only to sell. The chrome all still looks new and shines bright like well plated chrome should. As was common years ago the underside was coated with a corrosion preventative black coating to protect it. This car was always intended to be driven so this serves it well and will keep the underside in good shape well into its future as it continues to be riven to shows and for touring. The engine is a work of art. It was rebuilt by a well-respected Jaguar shop and painted and polished to original finishes. It drives out very strong and shifts beautifully in all gears up and down. It starts right up with clear clean exhaust. Oil pressure is excellent at any speed and long after warm up. The new clutch and rebuilt gear box make it a joy to drive. The new brake system stops the car firmly and straight from any speed. It tracks and handles as you would expect a new one would. The top and boot look very nice with only slight signs of wear on the top that will not even show in the photos. The tires look new with full tread. All in all, this car is ready to enjoy or show as it continues to be one of the fastest appreciating classics you could own. If you have never driven an E-type you will be amazed at how well these cars perform in modern traffic. They handle and brake better than many new cars and are very comfortable to take on long drives. As series one E-types have reached well into the six figure range the series two cars are looking like a great value. Most collectors will agree that these seriesII cars are much better drivers with superior handling, braking, comfort and reliability. This is a great opportunity to own a highly recognized collectible at a price where driving it still makes sense. For the purest there are a few obvious yet minor things that are not original to this car. The 4 port exhaust was originally a 2 port system. This looks and sounds great but is not asoriginal. The original oil pressuregaugewas recentlyremoved and replaced with anew, non original,type for moreaccurate measure. The original is included with the sale but would need to be rebuilt prior to installation. The shift knob has been replaced with a lovely hand made wood knob. I cannot find any chips in the paint. Although given it's age and the fact that it has been driven about 2 thousand miles in the past 12 years it makes sense to assume there are a few. Lastly the trunk lid still retains the original selling dealership badge from when it was sold new in 1970. The owner decided to keep it on the car since ithas such a well known history with only three owners from new. I would have removed it but it is and always has been part of the car. He felt it was cool to keep it on the car as it had been from new. I do intend to advertise this car locally so I reserve the right to end this sale if the car is no longeravailable.
