Description of 1971 Jaguar XJ6

1971 Jaguar XJ6

Vin: 1L61314BW

Mileage: 39,855

This 1971 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 short wheelbase is one of the finest Jaguars ever built. The XJ6 perfectly represents the Jaguar brand with style, class, luxury, and performance. The series 1 XJ was produced from 1968 to 1973 and is known by collectors as the most desirable generation of XJ as build quality decreased in the series 2 and 3.

This particular car has the venerable 4.2 liter straight six engine and Borg-Warner automatic transmission. This engine is both smooth and powerful ad with only 39,900 original documented miles. It's also the original numbers matching engine. This can be proven because the number stamp on engine block is consistent with the number on the fender tag. The engine number is stated as "7L32322H." The 4.2 liter engine has plenty of low end torque are more reliable than the optional 5.3 liter V-12.

The exterior of this Jag looks elegant finished in Old English White. The paint is in good condition, most likely having been repainted sometime in the past. The chrome bumpers and trim look very good as well except for the usual pitting. Generally the condition of this car would be considered driver’s quality, so there are some minor defects.

The tan leather interior is in nice original condition. The leather is worn and does have a few small rips in the driver’s seat. The carpets, headliner, and door panels are in good condition. Some interior parts are a slightly worn, but otherwise in good shape. The dashboard and instrument panel are flawless. The aftermarket air conditioning does not work.

With only 39,900 miles this XJ6 is a survivor. The car has been well taken care of and is a nice solid car. Underneath, the car is undercoated and rust free. In fact, the vehicle documentation states the car lived in Florida and California for most of its life. The engine bay is nice and clean too.

When this XJ6 was new, it was one of the best luxury cars money could by. Here is a review of the XJ6 from 1970. It states, "If you do not intend to buy a XJ6, don't try one, for ordinary cars will be spoilt for you thereafter. This is a very special kind of motoring." - Autosport, August 6, 1970
