Description of 1965 Jaguar Mark X

This 1965 Jaguar Mark 10 is a solid, decent car in need of light restoration. The engine runs fine, with freshly rebuilt triple carburetors. The fuel tanks were cleaned and etched but never finish coated, so the car is currently running off a gas tank in the trunk. The electric fuel pump works fine.
The Mark X was Jaguar's flagship, a large, ultra-luxurious but fast machine, equipped with a 265 bhp dual overhead camshaft E-type Jaguar 4.2 litre engine and the independent rear end, adapted from the E-type as well. The Mark X was faster than most luxury cars of its day and could match the interior of just about anything, with huge leather seats and figured walnut veneer thoughout. This one also has electric windows and air conditioning, a fairly rare option. The A/C compressor spins freely, so it should be straightforward to get the system working.
This car spent all its life in southern California until about a year ago when we bought it with some other cars. It was owned and cherished by one family since new. Some time in the recent past the interior was reupholstered professionally in high quality black leather, as original. The leather is supple and free of tears, fading, or other damage. The carpets were also replaced, probably at the same time, and they are in good condition. Headliner is excellent. The woodwork is original and needs refinishing. There is some veneer damage but overall it is sound.
The body is excellent apart from one or two small rusting areas which will need welding. There is some bubbling along the rear wheel arch on one side and on the rocker panel, but this car is very, very solid and sound, underneath and above. We have lots of pictures to show the details, and we invite any inspection.
This car spent all its life in California until we purchased it in the fall of 2015. At some point the seats were reupholstered in high quality black leather and the carpets were replaced. The car has been repainted once, and it it still presentable but there are rust bubbles appearing along the lower passenger side of the doors and sills and the paint has some microblistering, so it's time for a proper strip and repaint. The original chrome is excellent, as the pictures show. It comes with the original tool kit and jack and a factory workshop manual.
We have rebuilt the triple carburetors. The engine runs well, the transmission moves the car around the yard and the brakes work well, even the handbrake! It is not registered in Massachusetts so we cannot drive it legally for a road test. We did a compression test on the car last week. The lowest cylinder was 165 psi and the highest was about 175, so this engine is healthy.
The California title is clear.
If the buyer wishes, we can undertake any work you may need on this car, as we have a full service repair facility for British cars.
The paint does not look bad from fifteen feet away but it needs to be redone when the minor rust damage is addressed. Chrome is overall pretty nice but not perfect.
The car is 100 percent complete, including the jack, factory toolbox with some tools and unused Michelin spare tire.
This car has been off the road for several years, so it would need recommissioning but it certainly represents an easy restoration or a fine driver with minimal servicing.
