1987 Jaguar XJ12 Vanden Plas Sedan We have one of the largest collections of quality collector cars in the United States. See our page above to view our collection of over 100 of the world's best collector cars. 1987 Jaguar XJ12 Vanden Plas Sedan The Jaguar XJ6 was the long awaited replacement for both the Mark X and S-Type Saloons of the 1960’s. The XJ had an all-new body that utilized the legendary XK engine initially in either 2. 8 or 4. 2 liter form. Independent rear suspension was essentially the same design as the previous sedans and E-Type. but adapted for the new body of the XJ. The XJ debuted in 1968 and was produced in three different series through 1992. Notable differences for the series 2 included the addition of the 5. 3L V12 from the E-Type getting stuffed into the body shell. making it a true flagship luxury sedan. The Series III appeared in 1979 with a significant facelift that was tweaked by the masters at Pininfarina. New. larger bumpers were fitted to satisfy American regulations. and extensive mechanical upgrades were made. The standard engine remained the 4. 2L inline six (for export markets) with the silky-smooth V12 carrying on. now fitted with Bosch fuel injection. a very welcome improvement over the previous Stromberg carburetors. The Series III XJ6 proved very popular for Jaguar and was a mainstay of their production throughout the 80’s and 90’s. This 1987 XJ12 Vanden Plas is in excellent original condition. Vanden Plas models featured some of the details from the Daimler versions. most notably. more luxurious seats and carpets. While it is not a restored car. it is a straight. honest and exceptionally well maintained modern classic. Finished in an attractive combination of black over cream beige hides and carpets. it has been fitted with polished late model Jaguar alloy wheels and larger tires from an XJS. giving an aggressive but attractive stance. It has covered 80. 00 miles over its 27 years in service – though it feels and looks much younger than it is. Between the straight body. tidy interior. and well-presented engine bay. it conveys the feeling of a 5 year old car. All accessories including sunroof and air conditioning work as they should. even down to the original Jaguar stereo. These cars are notable for their phenomenal smoothness and fine highway performance and this is no exception. Road manners are excellent with strong performance from the fully-serviced 5. 3L V12. Finding a cherished example such as this one is increasingly difficult. XJ12’s are quite rare and many did not survive in such excellent condition.
