Description of 1976 Jaguar XJ6C |
Reluctantly offered for sale is what I believe to be one of the nicest, fully original, high-standard, driven-class Jaguar XJ6Cs available today. Nicknamed "Molly," she has been a part of our collection and family since 2013. We had several vintage Jaguars over the past many years (including a Series III E-type), and I have driven and owned many more in the distant past, but Molly is, without any doubt in my mind, the very best of them all. More pictures of Molly are available here:https://beta.photobucket.com/u/donj14 Background: Sometime around 2010 I started a search for the right XJ6C. I loved the combination of luxury with the Jaguar sporting character of these rare Series II coupes. I searched high and low and chased every one that was for sale on the east coast (and beyond) for a couple of years. As I looked at rusty, rustier, modified and/or abused cars, one after the other, I thought that I would never find the right one. Then, on a trip to Seattle, I discovered Molly at a high-end classic car dealer. She was beautiful, had a great pedigree and was exactly the high standard driven class car I was looking for. Multiple show winner, lovely original dark blue over blue interior in remarkable condition. Overall Condition: Molly is a lovely car inside and out. She is not a 100 point trailer queen, but she is a fabulous example of a car that has been extremely well preserved and maintained, is a pleasure to drive, and draws attention wherever she goes; she is certainly a worthy show car. According to the selling dealer she won multiple local and national Concours events; I have plaques for her overall second place win at the 1989 National Concours d'Elegance, and her best in class at the 1990 Nationals. I am not big on showing cars and entered Molly only once at the 2014 Concours d'Elegance Southern New England, she won first place in driven class. Molly's paint is fully show quality; deep, lustrous, with only a few very minor imperfections from scratches and nicks. Her interior was very nice, except for the lower outside driver's side bolster. That was original but showed a bit of cracking when I bought Molly, so I had it replaced with matching hide by Re-Dan upholstery specialists herein Connecticut, and they did a beautiful job. I do have a receipt showing that a prior owner recovered the front door panels and put in a new headliner. Unblemished dash, dash top, headliner, and the carpets are lovely. Chrome is excellent. Undercarriage is clean and honest. No signs of rust or accident damage. Excellent panel fit. She starts runs and drives like a vintage Jaguar should (and few ever did...). The driving experience is quiet and smooth. The engine revs freely and transmission shifts well. Cruising is a pleasure and back roads are lots of fun. I don't use if very much, preferring the all-windows-down driving experience, but the climate control works, but is sometimes a bit slow in responding to control changes. Molly has matching numbers and comes with her Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. Mechanical Work: Since I purchased Molly, the following work has been commissioned in order to bring her up to top notch mechanical form. I used a local classic car specialist whose owner has many years as a head Jaguar mechanic, and knows these cars inside and out. He does meticulous work and I have reports and pictures for much of the work done, all of which of course go with the car: · Oil and fluids change, new upper and lower ball joints, both sides, check and tighten bushings · Adjust left and right wheel bearings · New rack bushings, flush power steering and bleed. · Full four wheel alignment. · Install new steering rack · New thermostat and gaskets, new o-rings and new coolant cap · Replace pan gasket, transmission filter, o-ring for dip stick, filter housing base gasket, return line, seals and retest · Remove trunk cover and replace all 4 interior flaps. Replace drain hoses, reinstall · Readjustment of front windows · Remove and re-core radiator, new hoses, clamps, gaskets, new water pump, new belts, new oil breather cap · Full top re-build and new timing chain, camshaft bearings; machine cylinder head, new gaskets and reassemble, tune and setup, new ignition wires, plugs, etc. · Five new Dunlop Signature II 205/70 R-15 tires mounted and computer balanced. · New water temperature sensor. Of course, Molly has had twice yearly oil and filter changes. All told I have spent more than $20,000 on the work summarized above and the result is a 43 year old vintage Jaguar luxury that looks and drives like a new one. Historical Paperwork: I have bills and receipts going back to 1984 that support that the stated mileage is original and show some of the maintenance that was done on the car over the years. She comes with the original owner's book and manual, and I have a full shop manual as well. Sale Particulars: Molly is currently registered in Connecticut; our state does not issue titles for cars over 25 years old, but I have clear ownership and I will be happy to assist with proper transfer in the buyer's state of residence. Please! If you are a dealer, broker, advertiser, or the like, do not contact me. Buyer is responsible for shipping. I will be happy to assist with loading on your carrier. Foreign buyers please contact me before bidding. I understand that the market for these cars is thin, that they are rare to start with, and that most cars that trade are very much less than pristine examples. You could take a $5,000 or $10,000 example and pour what I am asking for Molly into it, and you would still not have anywhere near the quality car she is. I believe that I have priced her fairly. If you are interested in Molly, I am happy to answer any questions I can. I can be reached at 860-676-0717. I urge you to inspect and drive her in person, or have someone from this area do so for you; I will be happy to accommodate. I have done my best to describe her history and condition, but Molly is being sold as-is, being a 43-year-old Series II Jaguar... Thanks for your interest. Don |
