Description of 1937 Jaguar Other SS100 |
JAGUAR SS100 This is a kit-car based on a Jaguar SS100 from 1937. The car was assembled for the original owner in Missouri in the early 1990s. then transferred to an owner in New York. then to me in Virginia 2009. It has been garage kept since then and only driven on clear days. It has not seen snow. ice or salt during my ownership. I am selling because I practically never drive it – although I love to drive it. The car was configured using a front engine location – based on a Ford Overhead Cam 2. 3 litre engine taken from a 1979 car. The car has always started. It had the brake master cylinder replaced in 2012. It also has a new battery. To my knowledge all the gauges work. I have driven it less than 1000 miles since owning it. In 2013 I was able to obtain an Antique Vehicle license which is granted after 25 years in Virginia. States base the age on the “reconfigured date” not the year of the donor car. The Antique Vehicle plate eliminates all inspections and EPA emissions requirements. Check on the rules for your state to determine how this would work in your location. Clearly. Missouri and New York had rules that allowed it as well as Virginia. All titles and registrations are appropriate for 2015 in Virginia. VIN number is 2 digits short but that only mattered to my insurance company which added two zeros to the end of the VIN number. The prior states of registration did not seem to care about the VIN including Virginia. The only foibles are the following: -starting generally takes an initial 5 second crank. followed by a 5 second pause. followed by a second crank that catches. It has always started for me. It had its points and a full tune up in 2012. -the cockpit is open and you sit very high. I installed a grab-bar on the dash which makes the passenger feel much more secure as they don’t have the steering wheel to hang on to that the driver has. -the gas tank has a small tube that connects the fill opening with the tank and therefore must be filled very slowly - pain. but just takes more time. -tires are in good shape and have had no issues. -hood ornament is easily taken off (screws into place) and I recommend that you don’t leave it in place if you park in a public place as it will likely walk. -battery is behind front grille work and requires about five minutes to gain access – again not an issue. but takes a few more minutes than just removing the cowling. -The tan cockpit canopy is fairly tight and has one very small hole that was patched. I have driven once on a cold day and used the side flaps (heavy plastic that is zipped in place). Heater works. My purchase now price is firm at $10. 00. Once a deal is struck. I will release the car to you and/or your moving company. This will be after I receive your cashier's check or your personal check clears my bank. A cashier’s check makes this simpler. Check my rating with EBAY if any of this makes you nervous. This is a fun little car and I hate to say goodbye to it. |
