Description of 1982 Jeep CJ

1982 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade - 35,360 Original Miles - Collector Owned
This beautiful 1982 Jeep CJ-7 is part of a 60+ car private collection in Austin, exas.
I found this Jeep in May of 2012 when it was featured on my favorite website, ring a Trailer. You can still see the original post at the following link:
Wranglers are Jeans: Spotless 35k-Mile Jeep CJ-7
At the time, he Jeep had just been listed on Craigslist at a price of $19,500. As often happens with BAT featured cars, he sudden interest in the vehicle drove the price up and I ultimately acquired the CJ for $21,500.With the exception of a brief period with a Jeep specialist in upstate New York, he CJ has always lived in Texas and our dry climate has resulted in a Jeep with no rust, o rot, nd none of the problems that might be found had she hailed from a wetter locale.
The history that I have for the Jeep comes from the previously mentioned feature on Bring a Trailer, he previous sale of the vehicle in 2010, nd state records available from CarFax. Copies of everything will be included with the sale.
The Jeep was originally purchased from the AMC/Jeep dealer in Wichita Falls, X. It stayed with its original owner until 2010 when it was found and acquired by a Jeep specialist in Birmingham, L. When found, he CJ was stored in a barn on a Texas ranch and hadn't been driven in 15 years. It still wore it's original black paint and decals (red in color) and had 35,150 miles on the odometer. A photo of the Jeep in its original paint is included with the sale.
After finding the Jeep, he new owner made a significant investment in the vehicle before putting it back on the road. Repairs included a new starter, ew alternator, ew battery, ew battery cables, ew brakes, ew master cylinder, ew water pump, ew radiator, ew fuel pump and fuel lines, ew belts and hoses, nd new U-joints. In addition, he carburetor was rebuilt, he Jeep was given a complete tune-up, he valve cover gaskets were replaced, nd the fluids were changed.
Once the Jeep was back on the road, t was put up for sale and immediately acquired by another Jeep specialist in upstate New York who proceeded to make even further investments including a professional respray of the original black paint, ew Renegade decals, nd a new dash top. Following these improvements, he Jeep was put back up for sale where it was spotted by Bring a Trailer and then acquired by me now with 35,301 miles on the odometer.
When I got the Jeep is was a fine-running specimen with tons of eye-appeal... but I wanted more.
I started with the terrible, riginal Jeep interior. The Jeep was gutted down to the bare floors and a new, remium-grade carpet kit was installed in black. Both the front and back seats were stripped of their original covers and professionally recovered in luxury-grade leather. The color selected was dove grey which beautifully compliments the silver/grey Renegade decals. These were not seat covers from a kit. They were custom sewn from the finest materials and won't be found on another Jeep anywhere.
While the Jeep now looked great, also wanted it to sound great. To that end I installed a top-end sound system with an Alpine CD player, lpine amplifier, L Audio speakers front and rear, nd a powered subwoofer under the fold-down back seat. The rear 6x9 speakers were mounted in a set of VDP Sound Wedge enclosures that also provide integrated cupholders for back seat passengers. The Alpine CD player was installed in a lockable, uffy center console. The padded armrest of the console was recovered in matching leather to compliment the new seats.
For safety, installed a set of modern, etractable seat belts.
During my ownership, he car has traveled an additional 59 miles and the mileage now stands at 35,360 - meaning that the Jeep has been driven a total of 210 miles since it was discovered in that Texas barn back in 2010. Honestly, wish I'd driven it more. But with more than 60 cars in my garage, he simple truth is that none of my cars get driven as much as they should. After 5 years, 10 miles, nd countless thousands of dollars invested, 'm hoping the new owner gives this Jeep the life on the road that it deserves.
Following is more specific information:
Mechanicals:While I haven't driven this Jeep much since I've owned it, t's not because I have any worries regarding it's performance. I drove the Jeep probably 20 miles today and it ran great. It starts easily, very time, nd the original 258 runs strong with excellent oil pressure and temperature even in the 95-degree Texas heat. It idles perfectly, rives straight and the 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding or odd noises and requiring no unusual effort. The 4WD system was tested and is working as it should. The power steering and power brakes make the CJ fun to drive and the Jeep feels tight and correct as you would expect from a low-mileage vehicle.
I should clarify all of this by stating that I'm not a Jeep guy. I'm really a Porsche guy, f anything, ho always wanted a CJ-7 so I'm probably not as familiar with these vehicles as most of you are. The suspension on the Jeep has been lifted by the original owner and my knowledge of the work is limited to what I've read. When it was sold in 2010 the seller stated that the Jeep had a "suspension lift (about 4 inches)". In addition, he 2012 feature on Bring a Trailer stated "the suspension lift on this one looks to be around 4 inches, nd it is well done with replacement springs and not sketchy extended shackles."
As it sits today, he Jeep is a blast to drive and I've driven it comfortably around town and through the hill country at speeds up to 55 or 60 miles an hour. Like most vehicles that have been lifted and wear over-sized tires, ou'd probably want to make some adjustments of you anticipated a lot of high-speed freeway driving. If I was keeping the Jeep and planned on really driving it, he one thing I might address is the tires. While I love the look of the old-school alloys and the great big 33 x 12.5 Dunlops, he tires on the vehicle can be seen in the photo of the Jeep from 2010 and I have no idea how old they are. New tires would not only result in greater safety but would also improve the drivability of the Jeep.
Included with the Jeep is a set of soft doors and a vintage Bestop Dualmatic soft top in excellent condition. The top appears to be complete, ncluding the bows, ut it has never been mounted and the new owner will need to source the appropriate mounting brackets and snaps.
Exterior:From every angle, he CJ presents beautifully in its original color of black with silver Renegade decals.
The paint was professionally sprayed shortly before I acquired the Jeep and looks fantastic. There are no significant dents, cratches or even door dings and the Jeep draws a crowd whenever I have it out. Besides the paint, he trim, lass, enses and emblems are all outstanding and the overall effect is that of a pristine vehicle with only the slightest patina. You'll look long and hard to find a prettier Jeep than this.
Interior:The interior of this CJ-7 is the nicest I've ever seen and I have personally invested thousands of dollars making it something special.
The dash has been recently replaced and presents as new with no cracking or warping. The various controls are excellent with only minimal wear. The steering wheel is beautiful. The brand new carpet is protected by brand new floor mats with the Jeep logo. And, f course, he front and rear seats have been custom covered with luxury-grade leather upholstery. I'm immensely proud of this beautiful interior. You will be too.
