Description of 1976 Jeep CJ CJ5 |
This Jeep was purchased in Corpus Christie, exas in 1995. It traveled with me to Hawaii and then back to CA. In 2006, began a full restore. There is nothing on this jeep that has not been replaced, ebuilt, r repainted. The frame was was straightened by East Bay Frame & Axle in San Leandro CA and reinforced with MountainOffroad Engineering(MORE) frame plates and (MORE) rollbar tie-ins were welded to the frame. A MORE shackle reverse system was also welded into the frame withgreasable shackles. The frame and allchassis parts were then powder coated by MAAS Brothers in Livermore, A. A MORE long travel shock cage was installed in the engine compartment along with MORE bulletproofmotor mounts. More HDsteering box bracket and MORE steering bracepowder coated and installed. Thenewlypowered coatedtransmission skid plate was dropped with 1" MORE stainless steel body pucks for a super clean look. A new Rubicon Express 4" lift kit raises thevehicle with new leaf springs and Polyurethane bushings. The transmission is a T-18 with granny lowcompound gear at 6.32:1 rebuilt by Pete's Gear Shop in Hayward CA. No miles on the rebuild. Pete's also rebuilt the Dana 20 Transfer case with a Tera low kit converting the stock gears from 2.03:1 to 3.15:1 for improved rock crawling performance. Installed a Novak twin shift kit with custom knobs and twin stick boot. The twin stick levers were installed and then powder coated. This allows the Jeeper to transfer power to front/rear/all; sticker with details included for dash mounting. With the new Superior 4.1 axle gearing installed by Pete's in the front and rear axles, he crawl ratio is 81.6:1. The front Dana 30 and rear Model 20axleswere rebuilt by Pete's and included Ox lockers front and rear. These manually actuated lockers run to billet leverscustom mounted in thepowder coated 20mm ammo can locking arm rest. The rear axles are new Alloy USA one piece axles. New American Racing wagon wheels and Firestone 33" Destination MT tires. New 4 wheel disc brake system from SSBC is backed by a Hydroboost system from Hydratech with a little billetreservoir bling. Stainless brake lines and hoses for the hydraulic systems are installed. A custom Power Steering pump bracket wasfabricated at Neal's mufflers in Castro Valley, A. They also installed the SS 4.0 Borla headers, nd custom side exit exhaust. The fuel system is a new Mopar Performance 4.0 Fuel injection kit on top of a freshly machined 4.0 head forfanatic breathing. There is a stud conversion kit on the head. Under the head are newHarlan Sharp roller rockers and Smith Brother Push rods. The rockers are covered with a new 4.0Aluminum head cover andlots of cool looking gear surrounds: Mean Green high performance alternator and starter, low Cooler water pump, eCoolaluminum radiator andreservoir, nd a Wrangler Power supply dual battery set-up. New Centech tilt steering column on OEM Jeep steering wheel. New Centech Wiring full harness, igh output headlights, ED rear tail lights, ull sized spare on custom swinging rearbumper with WWII Jerry cans, ear LED brake 3rdbrake light, ustom billet Wrangler filler housing, ew polly gas tank, illet hood tie downs, ew fender flares, owder coated stainlessbody guards, indshield hinges, tick shift, edals, nd entry guards. Stick shift has custom billet Jeep knob. New best top Heated seats on top of new sliding brackets and a rear matching Best Top bench sitting on a locking Tuffy storage compartment. The Shell Valley body, ood and dash are made from Kevlar with a red gel coat inside the substrate so there will be no paint scratchesoffload. This is mounted with a rubber and stainless body mounting kit. With the Kevlar body and new Speed Glasswindshield, his baby is bulletproof. There are about $40k in parts and several hundred hours of labor that has gone into this one of a kind jeep. I have all the records and all aftermarket parts instructions are keptneatly in a binder. I also have 10 original, eproduced and aftermarket shop manuals relating to CJ's. Unfortunately, stopped just short of completing this project and this beauty needs to leave my garage. It is nearly done but will need a roll bar, hocks, ustom drive shafts to clocked axles, nd the brake and gas plumbing finished.
