Description of 1976 Jeep CJ |
1976 Jeep CJ7 Renegade. 5 years since a frame-off restoration. I have owned this Jeep for the past twenty years and it was my daily driver up until last year. Here are the details: · - Rust free tub. Beautiful 2-stage metallic Pewter Grey paint. (Factory 1976 Jeep color) · - “Levi’s" edition with Levi’s blue denim interior · - Factory hardtop, hardoors, Levi’s blue softop & Levi’s blue bikini top · - AMC 360 V-8 engine: Dyno’d at 330 horsepower(220 hp at rear wheels) · - Brand new HEI distributor with 8mm wires (not pictured) - - Newly rebuilt Edelbrock 650 cfm electric choke carburetor. Engine runs absolutely flawlessly & smooth - Headers with dual exhaust, Dynomax turbo mufflers & catalytic converters – sounds amazing · - New Process 435 granny 4-speed out of a Ford dumptruck – absolutely bulletproof · - Dana 300 transfer case with dual shifters · - 4:10 gears in axles (stock axles with forged one-piece axles-shafts in the rear). · - Final gear ratio in granny gear and low range is 65:1. Incredible gearing for rock crawling. · - Updated high output heater / defroster in front. · - School bus heater under back seat. Bottom line….you won’t get cold. · - Full roll cage front & rear, including rear cage around back seat occupants · - Shoulder harness seat belts front & rear · - Warn 8000 lb. winch · - Polished old-school 5-hole dished mag wheels · - 33” x 10.50” BFG mud terrain tires · - Custom tire carrier with Jerry can · - Waterproof marine stereo The body is in excellent shape. The only rust on the entire jeep is some rust bubbling up in the driver’s side fender and one small dime-sized spot on the rear corner of the hood (see pictures). The tub is made from galvanized steel (originally a 1989 Wrangler tub) and does not have any rust whatsoever. The inside of the tub is coated with bed-liner. There are a few small issues with the Jeep: The gas gauge does not read accurately and the driver’s seat / rear seat need to be recovered. The gas gauge issue is easily remedied by installing a new gauge; the tank has a brand new sender unit & pickup. Additionally, it has a small leak on the power steering box and the engine has a small oil leak by the rear of the oil pan. Other than that, everything works as it should. There is too much that I have done to this Jeep that I can’t list. This Jeep drives absolutely perfectly, is not squirrely and is perfectly safe going 80 mph down the highway. (I have driven this Jeep from Colorado to Maine & back.) The engine runs perfectly and the transmission shifts nice & smooth. It looks rather subtle, but with 330 horsepower it is anything but subtle when you put the hammer down.......hold on to your shorts. This Jeep gets lots of attention everywhere I go and people love how it looks like a classic modified Jeep Renegade from the 1970’s. The only reason that I am selling it is that my wife wanted me to get something a bit more child friendly, so I bought a 2005 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited. I would much rather keep this Jeep, but I love my wife more than this Jeep. Full disclosure: This was not a Renegade model when I purchased it in 1996. It was originally a well optioned butternut yellow CJ7 with a 304 V-8 and an automatic transmission, but I converted it to what you see now. (I hate automatic transmissions.)
