M-38 M38 Army Jeep Replica Samurai CJ3 339 milesThis is a Replica of a M38/CJ3. built on a Suzuki Samurai chassis & running gear. It took 2 years to build by a former professional mechanic. and no expense or effort was spared. Many years ago. I had a surplus M38 that I had to sell when I left for Vietnam. I decided one day to get another one. But as I looked back at the things I liked and didn’t like. I altered that plan. I loved the look and size and the ability to go anywhere and the handiness and classic lines of the jeep. I didn’t care for that heavy. whiney engine. non synchro transmission. drum brakes. those CV joints with all the balls. that I had to constantly work on. I decided to build a jeep with all the things I liked and leave out the things I didn’t. This “Jeep” is the result. and it’s a pleasure to drive. gets well over 30 mpg. and gets a lot of attention. oohs & ahs. everywhere it goes. Unfortunately. I just don’t use it enough to justify keeping it. I decided to find it another home with someone who’ll appreciate it. mostly to make room for another boat. We used it to run to the ice cream shop (where it draws a crowd). a few afternoon drives. and some parades pulling one of my antique boats. And a local custom car show. Always got applause in the parades! Total mileage 339. Since frame up restoration. It’s always been stored inside. Over 12000 invested and hundreds of hours. The project started with a 1986 Suzuki Samurai. It was stripped to the frame. which was blasted and epoxy painted after modifications for body mounts. motor and transfer case mounts etc. Everything was either new or rebuilt including transmission. differentials. transfer case. engine with boring. crank turned. head/valve job etc. Driveshafts were custom made and balanced. The body tub is Fiberglass as are the fenders. all reinforced with epoxy resin & bias mat underneath to withstand off road stress. then spray with hi build epoxy undercoating. The metal hood. windshield. & grill are oem Jeep as are the seats. Windshield lays down for fun off roading. Very light vehicle @ 1500# I’ve had it to 70mph and it handled smooth & straight with total control. Some of the custom features include aluminum dash. with all new gauges. indicator lights for 4WD. park brake. high beam. and turn signals. All new wiring. Custom fuse panel. Engine mods include Weber Carburetor. Thorley chrome headers. Aluminum cam/valve cover. electric fuel pump with oil pressure safety switch and manual override. Battery disconnect switch. New fuel tank. tires (5). upholstery. bikini top. 2" Receiver hitch/spare tire carrier. The 4 wheel drive system is completely rebuilt and functions perfectly. in high & low range. smooth and quiet. The 5 speed tranny shifts smooth. All new brakes. and of course. clutch & pressure plate. This is a very strong running engine. Stock Cam. crank etc. Bored . 030 over. Quiet exhaust system. It doesn’t have a back seat. and I never bothered to install wipers or a heater. Both are easily added if you want them. Most use the Jeep electric wipers. With a full top. this would make a fun daily driver. that is basically a new vehicle. This is a one of a kind. practical. fun. low maintenance vehicle with a classic look that’s not even broken in yet. Local pick up. or shipping arranged by the buyer. Clear title.
