Description of 1985 Jeep CJ |
For sale is my cherished 1985 Jeep CJ-7. I have owned this Jeep since 1994 and have babied it the whole time. It was always kept it in my garage when not in use. It is in outstanding condition with less than 71K original miles! About 5K of those miles were from towing it on vacation trips. ThisJeep has lived it's entire life in Texas and it does not have any rust problems! ZERO! I am the fourth owner since it was new. Because I am now a Grandfather tothree young kids I have decided to sell this Jeep and get avehicle more suitable for family outings with the crew. For over two years I looked all over the country at about 100 ratty and rustyJeeps before I found this gem. I can honestly say I don't believe you will find a cleaner, more rust freeCJ-7 anywhere in the country unless it has beenrestored. This one is all factory original except for some paint, a rebuilt engine and some added accessories. Included is the original 1985 Jeep Owner’s Manual, a 1985 Jeep sales brochure and a file folder with all the service records since I bought it. The front clip (fenders, hood) were re-painted by the previous owner because of sun fading. The paint job was OK but not perfect as you can see ghost stripes on the hood and a couple of runs in the paint. But hey it's aJeep not a showcar! You can see some of the sun fading around the windshield frame that was not re-painted with the front clip. The entire body tub from the windshield back is the original factory paint inside and out. There may be some light scratches and rock chips here and there butthere are not any dents. The interior is all original. The carpet, (yes carpet), all three seats, highback fronts and fold-n-tumble rear, are near perfect, not a tear or crack of any kind in them. About3 years ago I scored an NIB original OEM replacement top thatlooksfantastic. It has nice clear windows with just some light scuffs on them from use or being rolled up.The only flaw in the top is the rear side window on the drivers side has a 50 cent piece sized hole in it from getting caught in a hailstorm this spring, GRRR! This CJ has the very rare for 1985, factory AC that was gone through completely in 2016 and works perfectly. There are many other options on the Jeep that I will list below. Many of the options are from the factory and many were added by me. About three years and 4K miles ago I had a rebuilt engine installed by a local Jeep specialty shop. When the rebuilt engine was installed,I addedthe excellent but very expensive ($2,500) Mopar multiport fuel injection kit and a high-flow cold air intake This makes an immense improvement to the CJ. With a quick turn of the key it fires up and runs like a top. I also added an aluminum valve cover, a Borla stainless steel header, high flow catalytic converter, Borla stainless steel cat back exhaust, Centerforce clutch with all new HD clutch linkage, new alternator, new water pump, all new belts and hoses and the radiator was professionally cleaned out. All totaled this was another $3,000 spent in additon to the rebuilt motor and MPI kit. The AC system was gone through last year and received a new ($900) compressor, new dryer, and one new hose. It blows good and cold even on our HOT summer days in Texas. The transmission is a T5, 5 speed overdrive. The transfer case is a Dana 300, and the differentials are; Dana 30 front, Corporate 20 rear. The entire drive-line is factory original. It also has a5 year old Optima red-top battery. Although this Jeep is a great one I believe in full disclosure with no surprises for the new owner. It still has some things that could be addressed but are not serious. There is some lifter ticking while it warms up but then it’s gone. The shop that installed the rebuilt motor says it needs more miles on it and that tick will go away. A couple other things would really make it perfect; the transmission seals could be replaced because it drips just a little oil, the original factory leaf springs are tired and stiff. The tires have plenty of tread left on them with no cracking or dry rot but they are 23 years old and the spare won’t hold air anymore. It deserves to have some new tires put on. That’s it though for needs, it’s ready to rumble as is and will reliably take you anywhere you want to go!
