Description of 1979 Jeep Cherokee S |
1979 Jeep Cherokee S Widetrack model with Quadtrac. 79000 original miles and this will change as we drive it daily. Strong 360 V8 with 3 speed automatic transmission. I am the 3rd owner and the first 2 were the same family. The Jeep was purchased in Georgia and spent over 10 years in Texas before ending up in Florida, so there is no rust except for some minor amounts on the steel fenders (see pictures). Every single bolt on this truck so far has been taken off without any Liquid Wrench it is in amazing condition. This Jeep looks awesome and sounds mean with no smoking of any kind. We get compliments everywhere we go and sometimes waves from the CJ drivers. Exterior The exterior paint is faded and peeling and not original but the color is the accurate factory color. Most of the paint damage was from being stored in Texas outside for 8 years, but because the Jeep is made from galvanized steel there is no rust on the main body. Give this a nice, solid paint job and the exterior will be near perfect. No large dents and the jeep and it is amazingly straight. It has American Racing aluminum wheels and the original wagon wheels are also available. All chrome and moldings are all on the Jeep. Back bumper is damaged from the towing that the first owner used to do, but can be re chromed as it is not dented in anyway. Front bumper has some peeling chrome, but is also straight. The undercarriage of the car is very clean, no undercoating and just some surface rust and Georgia clay. With only 79000 miles, this is one of the cleanest, non restored Cherokee S I have ever seen. There is a small exhaust leak that is definitely the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket, so that will need to be replaced. All someone would need to do now to this Jeep is a quality paint job and redo the interior fabric and it would be the nicest Cherokee in Florida. We drive it all over with no issues currently. It needs a new set of tires as these are probably 10-15 years old. Interior Interior is in solid condition for its age. Dash looks great, no cracks and the paint on the dash is great as well. 8-track does not work. It has factory AC and we have yet to convert it, but the fans and knobs all work. Driver seat is torn from age and all fabric inside is faded from 8 years in Texas sun. We have seat covers on the front and back for now. The seat belt was added for my 6 year old daughter. Some additional interior options are Tilt Wheel and Cruise Control (not currently working) The rest of the interior is all original and the side panels and headliner (slightly sagging in from from water moisture) looking pretty good as is. The rear window does not work and most likely is a $250 motor replacement that is needed. All glass is in good condition and rolls or opens as it should. It currently has older tires that will have to be replaced and we are about to buy some but decided to list it instead. Items that have be updated and/or replaced are as follows:
