Description of 1987 Jeep Cherokee Chief 35K Mile Survivor |
1987 Jeep Cherokee Chief. 4 Door. This is an early 1987 and was made by AMC. Build date is 11/1986. I am the third owner. The second owner had it less then a year and sold it due to moving out of the country. I have owned this Jeep for the past 5 years and it has been part of my personal collection. I rarely drive it. I am thinning my collection out and may want to step up to purchase another vehicle. It has 35108 original miles. This is an all original Cherokee Chief. It is Colorado Red with the optional Mesa II Fabric Tan interior. The interior is near perfect with no issues. This is one of the cleanest early Cherokee XJ's you will find. Has the 4.0 6cyl engine (first year of the 4.0). The A/C works along with the 4wd. Has power steering and power brakes. Manual windows and seats. The paint and stripes are original. It has the original optional stereo which still works. Has the optional turbine aluminum wheels. I believe the tires may be the original Michelin X tires which were standard on the Chief and Laredo models. I inquired about the bumpers when I purchased the Jeep because they are chrome and the Chief's all came with black bumpers. I was told that the original owner liked the chrome bumpers and turbine wheels off the Laredo model so he had the dealer install the chrome bumpers. The turbine wheels were on it from the factory. Everything works as it should. There are two issues with the Jeep. First is that it has a soft brake pedal. It engages further down then it should. It was like that for the previous owner as well as myself. I changed the brake fluid but it did not fix the problem. The Jeep drives and stops fine the way it is so I did not get into changing anything else major. The other issue is that two of the tires lose air more quickly then normal (takes a few weeks to get low). They are a little bit dryrotted and I think due to the age, air is seeping out. Jeep has period correct Go Rhino brush guard, fog lights, covers and "dual blade windshield wipers". I never drive it in the rain so I kept them on. Has a aftermarket trailer hitch on the back. The Jeep will clean up a lot better then it looks in the pictures. My vehicles are garage kept year round and only driven on nice days and that is far and few between. Jeep is dusty right now.
