Description of 1971 Jeep CJ |
You will not find a better CJ for the price. This jeep runs and drives great. No issues with the engine. transmission. or clutch. This is a project fun jeep so yes there is some work that does need to be done. When I bought the jeep it was a real basket case. Someone had murdered the wiring in it. so I have since begun to rewire the system including installing a modern 20 amp fusebox (since originally the Jeep only had a few inline fuses. ) All systems work:Windshield wipers ( needs driver side blade and passenger blade and arm) but they do work!!!Heater/BlowerLights (High and Low)Brake LightsThe blinkers will need to be rewired. The Jeep came with rear only blinkers but I did not like the switch so I was going to put a more modern switch in it. The Jeep has newer tail lights which the previous owner installed when the diamond plate was put on the rear. There is NO RUST under the diamond plate. **After I bought the Jeep. I took all the interior out and cleaned and sprayed the interior of the tub with rustolium primer. I found one small spot of rust in the passenger side floor board (nickle size) and sprayed and filled it in. The Jeep has 5 newer tires with lots of tread (4 tires and 1 full size spare) The Jeep Needs:- Windshield ( cost around 90. 00)- Wipers as stated above-blinkers-Carb rebuilt. cleaned . or adjusted ( I'm not a carb guy but its running a little rich)-New Speedometer- There is one small spot on the passenger side under the door area of poor body work. Its nothing serious not rust just a small dent. Can be fixed easily. I have driven the jeep around to test it and it has never failed to work properly. I have taken it out to an Arroyo near my house to check the 4x4 and it works properly and has no issues that I can tell. I also replaced all the aftermarket gauges with new aftermarket gauges to insure I was getting proper readings. - the Temp is consistent and has never overheated-The alternator is producing enough amps to run all systems and charge the battery properly. -The oil is constant and shows proper pressure at all times. The Speedometer is not working. I replaced the speedometer cable with a new OEM replacement from 4 Wheel Parts. I installed a new Bikini top (Smitty built) also from 4 Wheel PartsI installed an aftermarket center console (locking) with cupholdersThe seats are in great shapeThe engine does not smoke/burn oilI was told by the previous owner the engine had been rebuilt. I believe it since it runs so well. The alternator has recently been replaced and it has a newer battery. A black storage box/ tire holder was on the rear of the jeep when i bought it. its included. The exhaust is newer (duel)This is a side fill gas tank which has the Dauntless Buick V6 engine and 3 speed manual transmission. I hate to see the jeep go but hopefully someone will enjoy it as much as I wanted to. |
