Description of 1982 Jeep CJ |
Condition: Scrambler runs and drives well. Steering is tight and the brakes are solid. Stops in a straight line and steers straight. Transmission is stubborn shifting into 2nd gear. I took it to our mechanic and he said it needs a synchronizer. It will go into 2nd gear and drives but most of the time requires "double clutching. " It smokes upon a cold start up. Engine does have plenty of power and is not "on its last legs. " The smoking may be due to old valve seals. The 75. 79 is believed to be original miles. Paint on the tail gate is chipping off but there is no evidence of body damage or Bondo filler. The bed area has a lot of surface rust but it is not rusted through and there aren't soft spots. The mechanic told me the rear differential is not original and it is a Ford 9 inch. Please refer to the photo. Overall the body is very straight and solid as is the frame. The paint is below average with scratches. chips. etc. It has a header and full exhaust including a catalytic converter. It has a Clifford brand intake manifold (I do not know if this is original or aftermarket). The stereo is old. basically junk. I think the rims are American Racing brand and are not original Jeep rims. Overall this is a nice unrestored vehicle. History: The previous owner was from Texas where he purchased the Scrambler. He then brought it to Colorado and kept it in his garage at his summer cabin for at least 3 years. He only drove it periodically from June through August. Ever since I bought the Scrambler it has been inside with only a few days outside. When I purchased it the first thing I did is replace the air filter. I did not know if the air cleaner was original so I had the parts guy look it up and it was actually the right part. I intended to restore / rebuild it and use it as a plow vehicle but we have not had much snow and I am wanting to purchase a different vehicle. I am setting my reserve low but please don't ask. Inspection: You are welcome to inspect the Scrambler prior to bidding. Call me to make arrangements (812) 870-9422. You may call me but I generally don't hear or sometimes carry my phone at work. I will call you back either at lunch or in the evenings. Please don't call me after 10:00 pm Mountain Time. |
