Description of 1988 Jeep Wrangler |
1988 Jeep Wrangler (YJ) w/SBC 350 V8 + LOTS of EXTRAS -Red Exterior w/ grey interior and black carpet -Chevrolet 350 V8 (5.7L) carbureted with 700R4 transmission and NP-231C transfer case (231C is the same as 231J, except it's got the bolt pattern for the Chevy transmission). Gen I 350 block. True dual exhaust with no catalytic converters (Warning: sounds like a hot rod; I like it, but know some people might think it's too loud). -Has SYE with 1350 output shaft installed by local 4x4 shop. -Custom transmission mount and custom skid plate installed by local 4x4 shop (skid plate currently off to help show the underside, but I'll reinstall it before we finalize a sale) -Flexilite 485 electric fan to keep the big V8 cool. No overheating issues after I installed this fan. -Tuffy center console with key -Custom front winch-ready bumper and rear tire carrier bumper w/hitch -33x12.5x15 tires/wheels with A/T tires (see below) -Brand new windshield -Working factory A/C (needs a recharge which I can get done before we finalize if that's a dealbreaker) -Heater works, but heater core needs replacing. Old core inlet broke off. Right now, the coolant bypasses the core, so engine runs fine and Jeep is 100% drivable. Engine swap was done by previous owner. I've had this Jeep for 8+ years, but since I started my business I don't have time to enjoy it.
Accessories included: a) CJ7 style hardtop with key for rear hatch b) Full length bikini top with rear support bar and header channel mount c) Full hard doors with keys (passenger window crank knob unscrewed) d) Half soft-sidded doors (including required striker plates) Extras included: a) Factory "family" style roll cage b) Ford 8.8 axles with 4.56 gears. Setup for SOA (so bolt-on ready) c) New 4.56 gears for D30 front axle with master install kit d) Set of used stock height springs for SOA e) Set of red cloth reclining seats (driver's side cushion and cover have hole) f) New cross-drilled and slotted front brake rotors g) EFI kit (TBI) off 1990 Suburban (all parts labeled). h) ODBI reader (to read and clear codes from EFI kit) i) All Aluminum radiator (installation will require modification of Flexilite 485 fan shroud so I only installed the fan) Issues: 1) Please keep in mind that this is a YJ and a 30 year old vehicle. These are not 100% water tight and the paint, while "newer" is still old. (Jeep was repainted sometime prior to my purchase in 2010.) 2) Doesn't like to stay in 4-low. I think it is an issue with the gear selector hole in the floor of the cab. I only wheeled this a couple times and stayed in 4-high, so it wasn't an issue I worried about. 3) Transmission OD dropdown cable needs tightening. Sometimes it takes it a little bit to drop the gears down from overdrive. 4) Will definitely need new tires. The current set have plenty of tread, but show their age due to weathering and are not recommended for highway driving. |
