Description of 1966 Lancia Other Flavia 1.8 MFI |
1966 Lancia Flavia 1.8 Coupe Pininfarina Design Rare German Fuel Injection System Mostly 1-Family Owned Stock #0691 VIN # 013888 ENG# 815400 Numbers Matching Original Ownership Documents 75,200 Original Miles (121,300 km) Grigio Tor di Valle/Brington (Slate Grey) on Natural Beige Leather 4-Speed Manual Transmission Clean and Clear California Title Very Dry/Straight Survivor Recently Imported from Italy Rare Right Hand Drive Inspection by Lancia Expert Manufacture Date of August 1965 The Flavia was a businessman’s coupe that was only produced for 10-years. It was considered at the time as well as by today’s experts as one of the best touring cars of that era. Towards the end of production, xample like this one received a more powerful 1.8L boxster style engine as well as a more reliable Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection system (similar to the BMW tii models). Very few of these cars ever made it to the U.S. and many just rusted away in Europe. This Lancia lived its whole life in Italy and was obviously always garaged and well cared-for (based on original condition). Giuseppe Ardito purchased it new on July 20th, 966. He lived in the southern Italian province of Bari. This area of Italy has similar climate to Southern California and is probably why the car is so dry and well preserved. This first owner was probably a mature person as it was specifically ordered with right-hand drive for Italy. Many older Italian car buyers in the 60’s preferred right-hand drive cars, s that is what they grew up with. Giuseppe kept the car for about a decade and then sold it to his son. Up until several months ago, his Lancia spent its whole life in Bari with what we believe to be the original family. The current owner found the car this past summer while traveling through Europe. He is a seasoned buyer and quickly realized that this was a very nice survivor that has aged very gracefully. The chassis was remarkably dry and straight. Furthermore, utside of one repaint in its original color, verything else seemed original, nrestored, nd in remarkable condition. The car was carefully packed and shipped via container to Los Angeles. It went through customs in Los Angeles and was legally titled in California with current registration. Upon arrival to us, t was next delivered to one of the best Lancia mechanics in the area with a list of services to perform as well as looking over the car. He too remarked that these cars rarely survived and were prone to serious rust. He was impressed at the originality and dry condition. He said, ldquo; Its a good honest high-level driver with lots of originality…” He performed the following services to make sure it was ready to be enjoyed: New clutch Refinish flywheel Reseal/repair fuel tank Recore radiator New radiator hoses New thermostat Repair driver window mechanism Replaced fuel pump and fuel filter New passenger side mirror (on order) Finally, compression and leak down test were performed and the results were even and very good. The mechanic said that the car hadn’t been driven much lately and once it starts driving, he numbers would get even better: 1) 180/15% 2) 176/13% 3) 185/15% 4) 169/15% The mechanic then did a shakedown test drive and said it was one of the better driving Flavias he experienced. It is very tight and responsive… “a wonderful road-touring machine.” The body was thoroughly checked with a paint meter in dozens of spots on each panel. The readings showed a quality older repaint. There were no signs of bondo or filler used. All the panels appear original and no signs of damage. The bottom of the car is very dry. There were some minor rust repairs in the wheel wells at one time that have been repaired. There is also a minor spot of rust on the floor behind the driver and passenger seat. Nothing worth addressing as it appears to have been coated to prevent future exposure. All the trim and glass appear to be original and in very good condition. The leather is original and shows some age but has a great patina to it. The dash, oor panels, arpet, nd headliner are all original and look excellent for their age. This Lancia starts nicely and has an even idle. The shifting is very smooth. The drive quality is excellent. It is very quite and comfortable. It would make a great couples vintage touring event car for the various rallies across the country. California registration is paid through October of 2016. This Lancia comes with the owner’s manuals, riginal Italian ownership documents, mportation documents, pare tire, ool kit, nd extra keys.
