Description of 1973 Land Rover Series-III "Defender" |
Great platform to start your classic Land Rover Restoration! Overview This ad is for a 1973 Land Rover "Defender" / Series-III rolling chassis. This left-hand drive chassis includes Land Rover original frame complete with running motor, uspension, rakes, ransmission, ransfer case, nd wheels/tires. The chassis and motor are in GOOD-to-VERY GOOD condition overall. The original car was in strong running order before it was disassembled. Also Included: - A S-III Land Rover service/shop repair manual - A binder-bound copy of the service history with work orders and receipts for parts replaced during initial restoration (performed from about 1998-2001) - Spare tire on matching OEM Land Rover wheel Not included: - Wiring harness. - Build date plates. (We can show and provide paper copies, ut are keeping for our project) - Front bumper - Vehicle Title -- We will need the original vehicle title for our rebuild Reason for Selling: We are selling the original chassis because we are rebuilding our Series III as a modernized electric vehicle with a new galvanized chassis that will accommodate modern suspension and transfer case for the high torque electric drivetrain. History This 1973 Land Rover Series III was purchased from Arizona in 2006 and lived in California until 2011 when we moved to Boulder. The car was used regularly as a limited-use weekend vehicle until it's recent teardown. The vehicle had a pretty thorough restoration and overhaul between 1998-2001 by the previous owner. The odometer has only 17k miles on it, ince it was restored. The restoration included a replacement/rebuild of the motor (we're not sure but the motor looks and runs new) and a significant number of replaced mechanical components throughout the vehicle. Specifics & Condition - Chassis - has light normal surface oxidation (as seen in pictures), ut no structural rust. Truly in very good shape as far as Series III Land Rovers go. - Engine - Land Rover 2.25L I-4 Gas Engine - runs strong smooth - Suspension - rebuilt with new Pro-Line parabolic springs and Pro-Line shocks in 2012. Less than 2000 miles since new - New Land Rover Genuine Equipment brake cylinders and Pro-Line brake shoes in 2012. Less than 2000 miles since new - Stainless brake lines - Land Rover 4-speed Transmission and transfer case which both shift very smoothly as intended - Fairey Winches Overdrive (we think was factory installed) - 4 original Land Rover wheels plus spare on identical rim with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires on all. Tires have plenty of tread, ome drying/cracking from age on tread surface, ut sidewalls in good condition - Basically, verything you see plus the spare, ut no front bumper This chassis would be a great asset for somebody doing a historical restoration on a Land Rover.
