A short description from the auction

The Land Rover
Inspired by the US Army's wartime 'Jeep', eveloped in haste and intended for short-term, mall-scale production, he Land Rover would defy its creators' initial skepticism. Rover bosses the Wilks brothers saw the need for a tough, our-wheel-drive, tility vehicle to serve the needs of the agricultural community in the immediate post-war years, ut the Land Rover's runaway success took the company by surprise. The necessity of using corrosion resistant aluminum panels at a time of severe steel shortage turned into a positive virtue in the Land Rover's sphere of operations, nd the use of existing components - including the P3 saloon's 1,595cc, our-cylinder, idevalve engine - kept production costs down and cut development time.
Ruggedly built and simple in construction, he Land Rover proved capable of surviving in countries where conditions were primitive to say the least, characteristic that helped contribute to its worldwide acceptance. Indeed, t is estimated that two-thirds of all Land Rovers ever produced are still in existence today. Progressively developed since its launch in 1948 and modified to serve countless specialist requirements, he ubiquitous Land Rover looks set to continue well into the 21st Century.
The Motorcar Offered
This classic Land Rover, omplete with a ferry roof and Alpine windows with sunshield, s a rough-and-tumble classic which has been stored but not run for the past 10 years. It is mechanically complete.
Its rugged character is emphasized by the spare tire mounted, f all places, n the hood. In generally used condition, his Rover should probably remain in this state because of its practical beauty. Obviously it will have to be re-commissioned prior to use, ut it was always a faithful performer in its day.
