Description of 1978 Land Rover Defender |
Thank you for looking - first off please take a moment and read this description carefully - it will answer a lot of questions you may have. ALSO please notice my PERFECT feedback which is hard earned. This is my Land Rover Series III 109. In 2010 me and my Army buddies replaced everything that we could take off the car (excluding back seats. frame. axle. big parts stayed). I had a new diesel from Turner Engineering in the UK installed (the new engine under 1. 00 miles on it). Here are the other new items installed: new transmission. new radiator. new heater. new wheels. clutch. tires. shocks. parabolic springs. etc. You will get the receipts in a binder. Serviced with all synthetic everything - despite not being driven much. regularly serviced. The HANNIBAL tent and roof rack are from South Africa and were $6000 alone. New doors and new galvanized hinges. stainless steel exhaust. stainless steel nuts and bolts. new headlights. floor mats. air filter. etc - the list is really long. to I used a UHaul car mover to get the car to Alaska and back from Alaska. The car has been driven approx. 800 miles since restoration - so it is amazing to get something like this in this condition. This has the original Sperry Overdrive. It is Not perfect and needs little things to make it perfect. It starts. drives. stops. blinkers work. horn works. but it could use an alignment. disk brakes would be a nice upgrade. door seals if you want them would be good if in cold climate. wiper motor works ok. but is slow and not great in heavy rain. Things like that - but it is very near perfect in my opinion. Left headlight has small hairline crack in lens. This Land Rover is not new - it is from 1978. It does not drive fast! It is not a fast car. It is made to drive through the jungle. or carry troops through the African dessert. It is made to drive on a country road in England or through the outback of Australia. It is an ideal car for Costa Rica. It is not an ideal car for Los Angeles freeways where everyone is driving 80 mph. It is a diesel - the engine is in perfect running condition - but it is NOT FAST - it likes to drive 55 mph and that is that. It is designed to go rather slowly for a very VERY long time and distance. Diesels smoke (out of the exhaust pipe). Pictures are worth a thousands words so I am including a lot of them. The car is registered in Alaska until 2015. The title is in hand and clear. No accidents no nothing - just a solid awesome Land Rover. If you want to get your business logo painted on this car - well you are a genius! That is what I would do if I had one to advertise. Lastly. I am also offering this car for sale here in San Diego. California. The car is located in North San Diego County in the USA. Tent can sleep 2 adults and 1 child very comfortably. Mattress is integrated into the design - no rips or tears - very sweet! Also - you probably won't get eaten by lions or bears - or drown in a flash flood. should that happen while you sleep. The ladder and all the stuff comes with. If you don't have any feedback (zero) - or negative feedback (bad) - I will probably cancel your bid unless you contact me first to discuss. There you go. Last thing - The RESERVE PRICE IS SET $10. 00 below what I have in the car - Good luck!Update after a great question: Vehicle is exempt from California Smog Inspection (www. dmv. ca. gov) Smog inspection in not required of Diesel powered 1997 year or older vehicles. This vehicle qualifies (1978 Diesel) as Smog Inspection Exempt and No Smog Inspection is required from the dmv in California for this vehicle. |
