Description of 1973 Land Rover Other

1973 Land Rover Series III 88" SWB Station Wagon. I've been driving it since 2003 when I first started commuting to James Madison University as a student. I learned to drive on the exact same model from 1999 to 2002. but had sold that one. I've logged many miles and hours in it. but the family is getting larger now and my work schedule doesn't allow a tinker toy any more. There is virtually no rust on the vehicle. It runs and drives very well. A couple of weeks ago I had the brake system overhauled-- with a brand new power-booster. master cylinder and rebuild the wheel cylinders. Oil changes have been on schedule for the last 11 years. All oil reservoirs have been kept full. No pitting on the front swivel housings. Body is in good shape with only a few wrinkles. Paint is over all pretty good as well with some chips from trips into the hills or overland. 1st and 2nd gear will pop out when engine braking. but really you never do that at such a low speed. 3rd and 4th are solid and you spend most of your time in them anyway. The fairy overdrive is functioning. but is a little noisy with maybe the balls needing to be eventually replaced. The tires are bias-ply super traction tires and have quite a few miles left on them. but are showing some age. The interior is worn. but still very functional: dash has only one or two small cracks. seats have some wear. middle bulkhead has been cut out. headliner was nonexistent when I got the vehicle so I put up military canvas. The speedometer stopped working in 2007 so I installed an hour meter gauge. I've put 193 hours on the vehicle since July of 2007 when I became engaged to my wife. The vehicle averages 45 miles per hour easily on a level plain and that probably equates to about 8700 miles I've run on it since 2007. The miles as a result of low operating speed are very low. but are also unfortunately approximate. I have the speedometer cable and may eventually get to fixing it. It does not smoke or burn oil. Between 20W-50 Mobil or 15W-40 Amsoil synthetic oil changes it consumes no oil. I used the 8000LB Warn winch several times over the years at different Land Rover rallys to pull the odd rover or pickup truck out and it remains fully functional. The roof rack is galvanized steel and has the rear ladder installed as well. It has been and will continue to be a faithful work horse of a vehicle for its next owner.
