Description of 1980 Land Rover Defender 110 |
1986 110 County Station Wagon with the original stock 3.5L V8. EBay does not recognize the European VIN hence thediscrepancy in the listing year. Excellent running with only 51,xxx miles, it is used daily and gets lots of attention. The 110 or Defender as it was later named is a highly capable off-road vehicle in stock form and beautiful in its utilitarian simplicity. As an early defender it maintains some of the original details such as lift up door handles, bonnet mounted spare and galvanized belt line capping on the doors and tub that match earlier classic Land Rover series trucks, and in my opinion look better than later models. This truck has seating for 9 with two fold down bench seats in the load area and large bench in the middle row. It is a relatively clean, mechanically sound example however is not a show truck, the paint and interior are 30 years old. With an investment to address minor cosmetics in the paint and interior trim this truck could easily increase in value substantially given the mileage and condition. It originally served as a Feurwehr or fire brigade truck in a very mountainous region of Austria. As a service truck it was well maintained mechanically. The original owners manual and service documents are included. It was decommissioned and the equipment removed. I do not know the details afterdecommissioning. This truck was imported from Europe in 2014 when I purchased it and upon delivery had extensive work done to the frame and body. The entire rear floor was removed and replaced with a heavier gauge aluminum replacement, many structural elements were replaced with new galvanized parts and the footwells and door posts were replaced. A new galvanized frame rear crossmember was installed. The underbody and frame was previously coated with Waxoyl, this was removed (atime consuming and dirty job) so that the frame could be inspected and repaired where needed. The Chassis was then painted with POR 15 and a top coat of paint. All new mounting hardware for seat belts was installed to specification for the second row seats. The new interior metal work has not been painted, as this was a service truck the exterior was painted red but the interior remains the original factory brown. It could easily be painted the stock color, be left as is with carpet installed or if the truck was resprayed could be matched to the new paint. This was my next to-do, however I am forced to sell this truck due to life circumstances. Recent work and customization - 4 new Wolf heavy duty wheels- Sliders with Tree Bars for additional body protection- New starter and main wiring and grounds- New large capacity Bosch battery- Freshly rebuilt alternator- New steering bushings and steering dampener- 2 KC Daylighter Driving lights on bumper- Original service roof rack and ladder- Old Man Emu Shocks for a slightly lifted stance- New Floor matts for driver, passenger and back seat I am straightforward with the condition of this truck, there should be no surprises. There are signs of its previous service life- there are holes cut for various radios and other hardware on the interior. The bottom of the doors show minor rust, the rear passenger side door has a small hole rusted through. This is fairly common on Defenders, and easily repaired or replaced with brand new doors. There are minor dents and dings on the body panels as well as some imperfections in the paint, however the body panels are in general very straight and in good condition. There areseveral pictures showing the process of repairing the rearfloor and footwells, these also show the frame condition. Known issues are minor: - Door inner panels are a bit beat up, the drivers has a hole in it- There are holes in the dash where a radio was mounted.- The dash clock does not work, which is not unusual.- Rear door washer works but the vinyl fluid reservoir in the door itself has a leak. It is currently disconnected.- Heater blower only works on high, this is moot as any lower would not do much as the stock rover blower is not very strong.- Gas gauge sender needs to be reseated in the tank, it currently will read 3/4 full when fully filled. Minor job I will try to resolve before sale.- The receiver hitch is bent up from an off-road recovery. This is a smaller custom hitch, a stock version that came withe the truck will be included with the sale. I am happy to remove the bent hitch if requested. Feel free to ask any questions, I am honest about the condition of this truck but I may be forgetting some aspects. It is a vintage Land Rover, things will break in time and therefore it is sold as is. I would not hesitate to drive this truck anywhere, it has been very dependable in my ownership and I am onlyselling due to life circumstances; this is a good truck. |
