Description of 1980 Land Rover Defender 110 |
For sale is my personal left had drive 1986 Land Rover 110, later years known as Defenders. This truck is my daily driver, well maintained, structurally solid and cosmetically good example of the long wheel base Rovers and is relatively stock. It is powered by a 3.5 liter, carbureted V8 mated to the stock LT85 transmission. This truck started life as a firetruck in Sellrain, Austria. I don’t know much about the life after it was decommissioned in the 1990s but I purchased it in 2014 when it was being imported from the Netherlands to the US. It has remnants of its service life still- the rear door still bears the Feuerwehr sticker and the interior has the siren/light switch as well as some holes where various equipment was mounted. The truck was resprayed the red/orange over the factory brown when put into service, and the roof was painted white at some later point I believe. I have the original owners manual, decommissioning documents and service logs from early on it its life. Upon taking ownership of this truck I spent 6 months working on the body before putting it on the road. Since then in addition to standard maintenance and upgrades by myself, I’ve had work carried out by Overland Engineering in Eliot ME (I am happy to put you in touch with the owner who is familiar with this vehicle). Here is a list of the work done, I have most receipts for parts and work which total at least 10k: -Removed the majority of Waxoyl from the frame for inspection and repair. Replaced the rear crossmember with a galvanized replacement, patched any problem areas. The frame has been repaired over the life of the truck but is solid. Repainted with POR 90 - Replaced the rear tub aluminum floor and top hats with double thickness custom laser cut panels as well as an new galvanized tub support crossmember from YRM. -Footwells and front door posts replaced with YRM parts. C column on RH was replaced. -New galvanized front shock towers. -New OEM seatbelt mounts in the rear tub, new retracting shoulder seatbelts and a lap belt for rear. -Removed a good deal of old service wiring that was clutter up things. I left a spare circuit to the roof and into the engine bay for future upgrades as the wiring was professional and heavy duty. -Alternator was rebuilt -Overland Engineering has done the following work in the past 10 months: New starter, leads and grounds, steering bushings, clutch, flywheel and rear main seal and general tune up. Upgrades- I try to keep my Rovers fairly stock: - New Heavy Duty Wolf wheels in spring 2016. Originals can be included in sale. - Old Man Emu shocks - Sliders with tree bars but the sil panels are included should the new owner want to revert back to a stock look. I have these on more for side impact protection than offroad use as I cart my kids around in the truck a lot. - KC Daylighter Driving lights and a rear work light - Service roof rack and ladder. Very nicely made Here are the known issues which are relatively minor but this is a 30 year of vehicle and is far from a show truck: -All doors have some rusting on the frame bottoms, mostly surface but some small holes. It is minimal and easily repaired. The rear door frame has some rust near the handle but otherwise ok. The RH rear door has some aluminum corrosion under the paint along the bottom edge from the rust. -The inner trim/panels on the doors have some wear on the bottoms and driver side has a repaired hole from some time during service duty. -The dash has a hole from a radio, the center cubby was home to a lot of wiring and equipment which I have cleaned up and installed a USB port. It could be replaced with an aftermarket cubby but does the job and is original. -The rear door window defroster does not work. It did originally but either the switch is bad or a wiring issue. -The rear door washer is disconnected but works. The reservoir is an in-door vinyl part and the seams need to be repaired as it leaks. I’ve never needed it. -Heater blower only works on high. Irrelevant as low is worthless. -Gas gauge stops at 3/4. The sender in the tank is seated incorrectly as I had to replace a seal but could be fixed easily, I just haven’t bothered to. -Interior is mostly the stock brown. The tub is either bare aluminum where I replaced panels or different brown that someone painted at some point. I was eventually either going to repaint in brown, Linex or recarpet as this County model had originally. -The exterior has small dents, scratches and the paint is far from perfect. It has been used offroad during its service and my ownership and has some marks to show for it but they are minor. -Upholstery is original brown Mooreland pattern and is a bit tired. I have 2 retrim and foam kits for the front seats from Exmoore trim in black vinyl that could be included if the buyer is interested in that direction. -The odometer works but I can not guarantee that it is accurate as it may have been replaced at some point. I believe it to be accurate but there is no sure way of knowing on an imported vehicle of this age. The mileage will increase slightly as I drive this vehicle daily. Again, the truck is 30 years old and is a Land Rover- it will continue to need regular maintenance and things will break. It is being sold as is, but I have been very thorough in describing it. Mechanically there are no issues, I drive it regularly on daylong trips and it has never left me stranded. It can cruise at 70-75mph in 5th gear, and performs remarkably offroad. If you want a solid daily driver adventure mobilethis is it, unlike most of thehigher price 110s for sale onebaythe steering wheel is in the correct spot and this one is in the country! Dress it up or leave it as is, this is a reasonably priced way into a Defender in good health. VIN is SALLDHMV8BA238449, Ebay does not recognize a Euro VIN. It is a 1986 Vehicle, not 1980. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. This is not the first time I am listing this truck for sale; do not bid if you are not serious about purchasing. I welcome in person inspections and test drives schedulingpermitting. |
